Have You Found the Writing Lab?

The marvelous writing tutors at the Augsburg Writing Lab are now working with all Augsburg students on any writing task -- papers, reports, applications, personal statements, resumes, etc. The WL is located on the street level of Lindell Library, just left of the circulation desk. No appointments are taken; just come with ideas, drafts (in hard copy), assignments. Each year the tutors conduct about 2,000 sessions with Augsburg grad and undergrad students and have had very busy first days already this fall!

Here are the hours for fall semester:

Mondays: 11:10 - 1:40 and 6:30 - 9:30 PM
Tuesdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00; and 7:30 - 10 PM
Wednesdays: 3:30 - 6:00 and 6:30 - 9:00 PM
Thursdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00 and 7:30 - 10:00 PM
Fridays: 4:30 - 7:00 PM
Sundays: 5:00 - 8:00 PM

Convocation Daily Schedule Change

On Wednesday, September 30, the Bernhard Christensen Symposium will affect the daily class schedule.

The revised schedule will be:
1st Period 8:00-8:50 a.m. (instead of 8:00-9:10)
2nd Period 9:00-9:50 a.m. (instead of 9:20-10:30)
Convocation 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Remaining classes follow regular schedule

Discounted Renaissance Fest Tickets for Sale in HR

While Supplies Last - Renaissance Fest Tickets for Sale

Augsburg Office of Human Resources is pleased to offer discounted 2015 Renaissance Festival tickets available for purchase starting Monday, August 10, 2015 in Human Resources. Tickets can be purchased by check or cash. If paying by cash, please be sure to have exact amount.

The Renaissance Festival is open weekends, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine, August 22nd through October 4th. The festival will also be open on Labor Day on September 7th and Festival Friday on October 2nd. Parking is free.

Get Your Flu Shots Monday 9/28

The Center for Wellness and Counseling will host the MN Visiting Nurse Association for its annual flu shot clinic on Monday 9/28/15 from 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the new CWC office located on the first floor of Anderson Residence Hall.

Flu shots are $36 and most insurances are accepted. Please bring your insurance card and/or check or cash. Also be sure to wear short sleeves or shirts with the upper arm easily accessible.

The clinic is a walk-in clinic so no appointment time is needed. If you have any questions, please call Dianne in the CWC office at 612-330-1707.

Be a flu fighter and get your flu shot Monday!

The Commons is open from 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Market Place is serving Herb Roasted Pork Loin, Millet Cauliflower, Mashed Potatoes, Buttered Corn. Vege is serving Garlic Roasted Mushrooms, Peas and Watercress with Green Onions, Baked Potatoes, and Brown Rice.

Hear from Auggie Alumni at Professional Studies Panel on Friday, September 25 from 12:30-1:40 p.m. in East Commons, Christensen Center

Ever wondered what it might be like to work for the Minnesota Twins or help people grow and develop as employees at a large company like Ameriprise? Could you see yourself visiting folks in jail as part of your job? How about using your communication skills each day as you manage complex projects in corporate setting? Or are you curious about finding a career where you can help people be and stay healthy, beyond being a personal trainer or gym teacher?

Then this panel discussion is for you!

Join five Auggie Alumni as we hear about their time at Augsburg, how they explored major and career options, and where they are today. Walk away with tips and insights to help you move forward in finding your path! This panel is appropriate for students in all years of school and is open to all.

Deadline for Taste of Augsburg Booth is Tomorrow

The deadline for reserving a booth for the Taste of Augsburg is tomorrow, September 25. For a vendor registration form, list of products/games already being sold, or questions, contact Katie Radford in Alumni Relations at radford@augsburg.edu.

The Taste of Augsburg is a carnival style event that takes place on October 10 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. during Homecoming. Approximately 300-500 alumni, students, parents, and community members attend each year. We are looking for groups to provide items for sale in "booths" that Homecoming guests can purchase. Your only investment is the cost of your product and/or service. Any profit that you make above your initial investment is yours to keep!

Saturday: An Evening with Sister Helen Prejean

From Dead Man Walking to an Oasis of Hope in Nicaragua:
Saturday, September 26th, 7-9 p.m., in the Chapel

Sister Helen, an engaging, thought-provoking presenter, will discuss her first experience as a spiritual director for someone walking to the death chamber, her journey to Nicaragua, and the non-profit organization, "Friends of Batahola". This fundraiser event is hosted by CGEE and Friends of Batahola.

All funds raised on Saturday will go to the Friends of Batahola, a cultural center based in Managua, Nicaragua dedicated to "Promoting a culture of gender and generational equity, which enables women and men of all ages to discover and affirm their human rights, self-esteem and the equality of all people."

An engaging speaker for all, anyone interested in social justice, grassroots political campaigns, Nicaragua/Latin America, and those opposed to the death penalty will be especially interested in Sister Helen's talk. The event also features local jazz musicians, Nicaraguan crafts and jewelry for sale, and a book signing with Sister Helen. Sister Helen's books will also be available for purchase.

Augsburg students, staff, and faculty FREE with ID.

Non-Augsburg Price: $20.00 for general admission, $15.00 for students w/ID.

Mounds View Youth Basketball - Coaches Needed

The Mounds View Basketball Association (MVBA) is looking for Traveling Basketball coaches for various levels of boys basketball. The time commitment is 2 practices a week (1.5 to 2 hours each) and 10 tournaments (on weekends-Sat. and Sun.) starting Nov. 14 - March 14.

Pay is $1500+ a year (depending on experience). They just started the interview process and hope to have coaches in place by the end of next week. If you are interested – see their website, read the expectations, complete an application, and email it to Lori ASAP.
