CTL Night at the Theatre This Thursday - RSVP Now

The Center for Teaching and Learning invites Augsburg faculty and staff to attend the Theater Department's production of Cymbeline and a post-show discussion next Thursday, November 3.

Cymbeline, one of William Shakespeare's final plays, is a fantastical fairy tale that swings from comedic heights to tragic despair with an added touch of romance. Taking place during King Cymbeline's reign in Britain, the play tells the story of Princess Imogen's romance with the courteous but poor Posthumus, their secret marriage and his consequent banishment. The couple's journey back to each other involves wagers and poison, hidden identities, long-lost brothers, deceitful villains, a lost bracelet, evil stepmothers, ineffectual fathers, and an invasion by the Roman army. Running time for Cymbeline is about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Attendees are invited to a dessert reception and discussion immediately following the production in the Foss Concourse area. English Professor Doug Green and Director Darcey Engen, along with student actors from the show, will lead the discussion during the dessert reception. Please join us for this event!

2016 Queer Up the Polls

Accompany friends and colleagues to the polls November 8th at 4:30pm in OGC 100. Queer Pride Alliance will offer a quick refresher session on how the voting process and voter registration will work and from there attend the Christensen Center polling station together.

This event is perfect for first time voters and those concerned with how marginalized people are often kept out of the political process. The event will ensure everyone can engage in the political process without fear of intimidation because of their appearance, lack of knowledge about the process, or anxiety surrounding candidates, accessible voting locations, and more. No need to be a QPA member to attend - just LGBTQIA or an ally!

If you registered to vote with your Augsburg dorm address as your home address or live in Augsburg's district, this event is for you! If not, you may still tag along to support - it will be more than welcome.

Come to Heritage Day 2016 - Reformation Remix

AUGSBURG STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF, YOU'RE INVITED TO HERITAGE DAY on Thursday, November 3!

As Augsburg approaches its 150th Anniversary (in 2019), we continue to explore how our Lutheran heritage informs our callings.

On November 3, join us in celebrating Heritage Day 2016 through creative engagement with contemporary issues of race and faith. Artists Joe Davis and Agape will lead us through creative dialogue through music, storytelling, and poetry.

Visit http://www.augsburg.edu/ccv/events/heritageday/ for more details.

AGAPE* (Dave Scherer) has inspired hundreds of thousands of people from Brooklyn to Bosnia with his relational ministry “Hip Hop Outreach.” Combining rapping, dancing, storytelling and his fluency in Spanish, AGAPE* connects with his listeners in a way that they really “get it”. He has recorded 10 albums and recently published a book entitled “Agap-ology”. His ministry was also featured in a ABC documentary about people tackling food insecurity in America. These days you can find him at Luther Seminary where he works part-time as the Christian Public Leader coordinator. He is also a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory.

Joe Davis is a multi-media spoken word poet, teaching artist, and community organizer based in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. Engaging wildly diverse audiences--from hundreds of interfaith and intergenerational marchers at the Selma to MN 50th Anniversary March to over 35,000 youth at the Ford Field Stadium in Detroit, Michigan--Joe Davis has a gift for bringing people together around honest poems, stories, and songs. One of six recipients of the 2015 Intermedia Verve Spoken Word Artist Grant, he founded a music collective, The Poetic Diaspora, while developing a classroom curriculum and producing a documentary film exploring the history of the Minneapolis-St.Paul spoken word scene. As a student and educator, he has served as teaching artist at dozens of high schools and universities and is currently the Artist-in-Residence at Luther Seminary, pursuing a masters in Theology of the Arts.

Want to know more about these talented artists before the event? Visit http://www.hiphopoutreach.com/#rise-up-tour for AGAPE (Dave Scherer) and https://www.facebook.com/joedavispoetry for Joe Davis.
