Teaching and Learning

TODAY: Writing Across the Curriculum (Until Noon)

What do students learn in ENL 111 Effective Writing? How can departments build on it?

As stated in our Undergraduate Student Learning Outcomes, Augsburg faculty are committed to teaching students critical reading - "to construct coherent, polished and persuasive arguments, narratives and explications in written, oral and other formats." At this workshop led by the English department, faculty will discuss the role of writing in the curriculum. What is Effective Writing, and how should it prepare students as writers coming out of ENL 111?

Summer Hours, Tutors in Writing Lab

Good news for summer term students: The Writing Lab is now open Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30 - 7 p.m. and tutors will be available during these hours.

The Lab is located on the street level of Lindell Library and is left of the circulation desk.

No appointments are taken; just show up with a hard copy of a writing assignment (or your ideas for a first draft).

$5 Gift Card for Research Study Participants

My name is Darby Lindgren, and I am a senior Exercise Science student and an URGO researcher this summer at Augsburg. I am investigating a modified version of the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) test in Division III male college soccer players and need healthy male Augsburg College students (ages 18-24) to participate in this study as part of the control group. You may not be currently a part of an Augsburg athletic team.

This study involves a half-hour visit to Kennedy Center Physiology lab (room 309) for Functional Movement Screen testing and a video of a single-leg squat.

Participants will receive a $5 gift card to Target. You may also stick around for further research testing and another $5 gift card.

Einsteins is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., with a condensed menu.

Nabo is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with a condensed menu, and from 4-8 p.m. with beverages and grab-and-go items.

Staff Senate Seeks Awesome Auggies

Be engaged in the Augsburg community by serving on Staff Senate. If you’d like to become a senator or nominate a colleague, send your candidate(s) names to staffsenate@augsburg.edu by Tuesday, May 17. Online elections will take place May 19-26. Staff Senate is filling two elected Staff Senate positions this spring.

All nominees will be verified before being placed on the election ballot. An email will be sent to all Augsburg staff with a link to the online election survey on May 19. Staff will have until May 26 to take the survey. Successful candidates will be notified by May 27.

Staff Senate Membership

Augsburg College Staff Senate (ACSS) is composed of six members who are nominated and elected by their peers for a two-year term and two at-large members to be chosen, in every instance, by ACSS. All ACSS members have the option to serve a third year.

Election Procedures

Nomination and Voting Rights: Nominations are collected through e-mail and ballots are gathered from all staff through an online survey (staff eligible to vote are all regular full- and part-time staff, not including union, temporary staff, MMeep, MCC, or other agency groups). ACSS members are eligible to vote. Composition of ACSS: It is recommended that members be at least .75 FTE, regardless of exempt or non-exempt status.

As Augsburg construction of the Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion, gets underway, come and find out about transportation options to support and promote alternative transportation, more green commutes to Augsburg's urban Minneapolis campus, and options for parking.

Yasmin is a 2015 Biology alum who has served as the MN HealthCorps VISTA with the Health Commons and Campus Kitchen this year. In August, she starts a new adventure at the American University of Antigua College of Medicine.
