Tues. 4-19 University Copyright Policy Session

Faculty, AAUP and CTL invite you to participate a webinar on intellectual property and university copyright policies. The session will address how copyright law interacts with copyright policies, identify how these interactions affect professor ownership and use of copyrighted works, and apply these concepts through the use of hypothetical situations. Due TODAY: Signature Assignment Proposals

Apply by April 15, 2016

Six Stipends: $300

In Fall 2015, the faculty endorsed a plan to require each major to incorporate a Signature Assignment into their junior or senior coursework. This curricular commitment grows out of the belief that every student should be challenged to complete a significant assignment that develops and showcases writing and critical thinking skills. In addition, the assignment could potentially engage students with other skills and sensibilities named in the undergraduate institutional student learning outcomes (iSLOs), such as information literacy, integrative thinking, ethical reasoning, intercultural awareness, global learning, and/or problem solving.

The Directors of Assessment and General Education announce a grant opportunity to support the development of these signature assignments. Six stipends of $300 will be awarded on a competitive basis to faculty interested in developing signature assignments for their programs. Following the ICD workshop model, grant recipients will work collaboratively to develop or revise major assignments, as well as to help define the College-wide expectations and outcomes for these assignments. Participation in this cohort will help shape future curricular recommendations.

Participants should be available either the last week of May or first week of June 2016 for several group sessions.

Please submit a one-page proposal outlining your interest in this program to Jacqui deVries devries@augsburg.edu and Kristen Chamberlain chamberk@augsburg.edu by April 15, 2016. The proposal should articulate initial ideas about what the assignment might look like and where in the curriculum it could be located. The proposal could also include ideas about how the assignment would address additional iSLOs (beyond critical thinking and writing.) If you need a few extra days to submit, please let us know.

Faculty, come learn about bibliographic software available to you and how to use it. A three-person panel - James Vela-McConnell, Mike Bloomberg, and Mike Schock - will demo and share their experiences with Cotero, EndNote, Mendeley, and RefWorks. All faculty are invited to this panel, discussion, and demonstration of these bibliographic tools. Hosted by Nathan Lind of the E-Learning Team.

Get Paid To Do An Internship - Apply Today

Wouldn't it be GREAT if you could get paid to do an internship?

You may be able to do just that because of a grant awarded to Augsburg College. The Career Ready Internship grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation provides funds to colleges and universities so that they can partner with businesses and nonprofits to develop new paid internships, and convert existing unpaid internships into paid opportunities. This program serves juniors and seniors who receive financial aid, improving their odds of graduating and preparing them to enter the workforce with real-world experience in their fields of study.

To be eligible:

* Students must be in good academic standing (2.0+ GPA)
* Students must be a college junior or senior (60 credits completed) at the time of the internship
* Students must be eligible for financial aid (work study)
* The internship must be related to your major or career aspirations
* Accepting applications NOW for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017.

Act now! Priority consideration is given to students who complete the short Augsburg application, so we recommend you complete it soon.

ABO Outing to Target Field - Tuesday, April 26

Join ABO (The Augsburg Business Organization) for our annual spring group outing to see the Minnesota Twins. The game at Target Field is on Tuesday, April 26, at 7 pm. Come see the Twins take on the Cleveland Indians, meet some fellow Augsburg Business Students and get a chance to cheer on the Twins as they play some outdoor baseball! (Note: This is the Tuesday evening of Finals Week - a great opportunity to take a break from studying and celebrate the end of the Spring semester!)

Renew Your FAFSA by May 1

It's that time again! The FAFSA application for the 2016-2017 year is now available for students returning to Augsburg for the 2016-2017 academic year. The FAFSA is the application required to determine your eligibility for access to financial aid during your time at Augsburg, and must be renewed every year.

May 1st is the deadline to apply for financial aid at Augsburg. All Day College students must submit their application by this date or risk losing some of the aid that may be available to you.

File your taxes early to ensure that you can use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when completing your FAFSA this year. This function pre-populates your tax information into the application, which reduces your chances of being selected for verification later on. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool is available for use on the FAFSA 2-3 weeks after electronically filing your taxes, and 6-8 weeks after filing paper taxes.

CHANCE Meeting Today

CHANCE is a joint effort between Augsburg and the Humphrey School at the University of Minnesota to provide opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to learn about the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood and to become involved.

Miski Abdulle, Programs Manager of the Immigrant Women Advocacy Program at the Brian Coyle Community Center, will be joining us to share her insights about issues immigrant women face in the neighborhood. Feel free to bring your lunch and come learn what's going on in our community.

Theater: A Sacred Passage Returns Next Weekend

Three Augsburg theater alums (Stephanie Lein Walseth, Quinci Bachman, and Jorge Rodriguez) & Professor Emerita Martha Johnson are part of the Full Circle Theater Company's return engagement of Theater: A Sacred Passage for three performances only at Dreamland Arts in St. Paul next weekend. Stephanie and Martha are two writers of this original performance piece, devised by the five core artists of Full Circle from their personal journeys into theater.

Other writers are James Williams, Rick Shiomi, and Lara Trujillo. Their stories embody the challenges and transformational experiences they have had in becoming theater artists and how their lives and work reflect the huge changes in our theater community over the past two decades.

The piece incorporates acting, storytelling, choreography and music. Quinci Bachman is production coordinator, stage manager, and sound designer. Jorge Rodriguez is set and technical director and lighting designer. Martha Johnson is dramaturge and assistant director.
