Two Weeks Left to Use the Writing Lab This Term
As the end of the term approaches, remember that you can receive help on any writing task if you stop by the Writing Lab (street level of Lindell Library, left of the circulation desk). Here are the hours through Wednesday (April 27) of finals week:
Mondays: 11:10 - 1:40 and 6:30 - 9:30 PM
Tuesdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00; and 7:30 - 10 PM
Wednesdays: 3:30 - 6:00 and 6:30 - 9:00 PM
Thursdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00 and 7:30 - 10:00 PM
Fridays: 4:30 - 7:00 PM

New Summer Course: Food - A Global History
Learn world history by studying food!
Take HIS 195 / HIS 440 -- Food: A Global History this summer.
Food is at the center of human existence, and human history can be told as a story of how food has been produced, distributed and consumed. Taking a broad approach, the course traces changes in taste, production, trade and consumption, from the Paleolithic period to the early twentieth century. With case studies drawn from China, South Asia, Europe, and the Americas, it offers a global narrative of world food history. Students will learn about the fascinating histories of certain key foodstuffs (e.g. sugar, wheat, chocolate, potatoes, bugs, etc.) and examine a number of critical themes, including consumerism, famine, dieting, and food crises. Students will plant an organic garden, cook a Medieval meal, analyze Early American cookbooks, and trace the historical origins of a modern meal.
The course meets on the hybrid summer schedule (two meetings a month, with online sessions in between): May 10, 24, June 7, 21, July 12, 26, and August 9. Email Jacqui deVries <devries@augsburg.edu> for more information or a syllabus.

The Center for Teaching and Learning is looking for a faculty member to serve as a CTL Fellow. We currently have one opening for a two-year term beginning in the fall. CTL Faculty Fellows assist the CTL Director in designing and organizing programs with the goal of enhancing teaching and learning at Augsburg. Faculty/Staff Seminar Trip to Germany - Apply Now
In celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, Augsburg College faculty and staff are invited to apply for a seminar trip to Germany from May 8-19, 2017. The trip will be led by Dr. Russell Kleckley and Dr. Mark Tranvik of the Religion Department. We will visit Berlin, Wittenberg, Leipzig, and end our trip in Prague. The focus will be on how vocation has been understood in the Lutheran tradition and how it still informs the life and work of the college today. All are welcome...you don't have to be Lutheran to come!
Seminar participants will be asked to pay $500. For faculty, an additional $500 can be available from CTL funds. Staff should speak with their supervisors about equivalent financial support from the College.
Those interested should submit a brief statement describing their interest in the seminar and the anticipated benefits for both the individual and the College. About two paragraphs should be fine. This should be sent to Mark Tranvik (tranvik@augsburg.edu) or Russell Kleckley (kleckley@augsburg.edu) by no later than May 2. Profs. Tranvik and Kleckley will also take your questions or concerns.

New Copy/Print Online Order Site
We are excited to announce the roll out of our new copy and print order site! It is streamlined - fewer screens and fewer clicks. Click to the new site from Inside Augsburg>Administrative Tasks>Copy Request, or from the A-Z directory>Central Services>On-line Ordering>Copy Request.
Upon your first login you will be required to create an account. After creating your account you will be asked to login and you can then select automatic sign-on and your credentials will be saved to that computer. As a reminder, the envelopes tab is only for generic Augsburg envelopes. Place custom orders on the envelopes ordering site, also found under Central Services>on-line ordering. Renew Your FAFSA by May 1
It's that time again! The FAFSA application for the 2016-2017 year is now available for students returning to Augsburg for the 2016-2017 academic year. The FAFSA is the application required to determine your eligibility for access to financial aid during your time at Augsburg, and must be renewed every year.
May 1st is the deadline to apply for financial aid at Augsburg. All Day College students must submit their application by this date or risk losing some of the aid that may be available to you.
File your taxes early to ensure that you can use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when completing your FAFSA this year. This function pre-populates your tax information into the application, which reduces your chances of being selected for verification later on. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool is available for use on the FAFSA 2-3 weeks after electronically filing your taxes, and 6-8 weeks after filing paper taxes.
If you'd like some help filling out your FAFSA, feel free to attend one of the following FAFSA workshops!

Please join me in congratulating Scott Washburn, Assistant Director of the Steps program, on his successful defense of his dissertation; Trajectories, Transformations, and Transitions:A Phenomenological Study of College Students in Recovery Finding Success. Scott will be awarded his Ed.D. from Saint Thomas in May.
A Stray - Tickets Available for Sunday
Film "A Stray" made here in Cedar Riverside will be shown at the MN International Film Festival this Friday evening and Sunday afternoon at St. Anthony Main Theatre.
The film received great reviews at SXSW Film Festival. An Augsburg alum and a current student worked on the movie with NY based film maker, Musa Syeed.

Invitation to Participate in Relaxation Study
Are you currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student? If so, you are invited to participate in a study on the effectiveness of various relaxation methods in college students. My name is Elizabeth Whalen, and I am an undergraduate music therapy student at Augsburg College. If you participate in the study, you will be asked to receive three relaxation sessions. Each session will last a half hour, with additional time before and after the session to collect information about your mood, stress level, pain level, pulse, and breathing rate. Augsburg Total Wellness - April Food Drive
For this month's wellness activity, we're going to focus on feeling good, by doing good. We will be collecting food items for Augsburg College's Campus Cupboard, which provides free food to students throughout the year.
Donations will be accepted in Human Resources until Friday--2 days left to help us do good!
Items that the Cupboard is in need of (and what our students would like to see more of) include:
grains (e.g., cereal, rice, etc)
canned tuna
canned soup (not just canned broth)
canned vegetables and beans
non-dairy granola bars
chicken Alfredo sauce
tomato paste
pancake mix and waffle mix
snacks like Cheez-Its and crackers
The Campus Cupboard will accept a variety of other non-perishable food items, which makes it even easier for us to help our students as they head into final examinations and summer!

Get Paid To Do An Internship - Apply Today
Wouldn't it be GREAT if you could get paid to do an internship?
You may be able to do just that because of a grant awarded to Augsburg College. The Career Ready Internship grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation provides funds to colleges and universities so that they can partner with businesses and nonprofits to develop new paid internships, and convert existing unpaid internships into paid opportunities. This program serves juniors and seniors who receive financial aid, improving their odds of graduating and preparing them to enter the workforce with real-world experience in their fields of study.
To be eligible:
* Students must be in good academic standing (2.5+ GPA)
* Students must be a college junior or senior (60 credits completed) at the time of the internship
* Students must be eligible for financial aid (work study)
* The internship must be related to your major or career aspirations
* Accepting applications NOW for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017.
Act now! Priority consideration is given to students who complete the short Augsburg application, so we recommend you complete it soon.

More than 80 student researchers will be presenting their findings at this annual poster session. Zyzzogeton is a great opportunity to hear about the exciting scholarship happening on campus and refreshments will be served throughout the event.

Nobel Peace Prize Forum Tabling Event - April 14
Did you know that this year's Forum will concentrate on the work of 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Kailash Satyarthi - who has dedicated his life to ending child labor and child trafficking?
On Thursday, April 14 our offices will be tabling in the Christensen Center (or right outside) from 11 am - 2 pm to share additional news and details about the upcoming 2016 Nobel Peace Prize Forum.
