Keystone and Spanish in Mexico This Summer
Want to travel and get credit this summer? At Augsburg's Center for Global Education and Experience in Cuernavaca, Mexico, you can take courses in Spanish, history, Latin dance, or do an internship. Students: 10-Day Fellowship in Israel App Due 3/1
The MINNE Fellows program will select one Augsburg student for a free 10-day fellowship in Israel from May 2-13, 2016. The goal of the program is to foster greater understanding between people and to educate college students about the Holocaust. The Minneapolis Jewish Federation and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) will arrange for fellows to tour Israel with Israeli peers. The visit to Israel will include a tour of Yad Vashem, Israel's national Holocaust museum, additional Holocaust educational programming as well as touring the sites of Israel.
The Minneapolis Jewish Federation and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) will arrange for fellows to tour Israel with Israeli peers.
-MINNE covers flight and land costs as well as granting students a $50/day per diem provided while the student is in Israel.
-Applicants must be U.S. citizens and registered for full time classes at Augsburg with at least one year left on campus. Students must be sophomores or above with a 3.0+ GPA.

Steen Grant - Request for Proposals
The Steen Committee is happy to announce that the Request for Proposal is now ready for distribution for people interested in applying for a Steen Grant. As you will recall, this grant originated with an endowment left by Professor Paul Steen, former chair and faculty member in the Social Work Department. He specified that the money be used for projects to "reconcile the races". Thus, project applications are welcome to support projects designed to bring people together who differ by race and ethnicity, as well as in other social identities.

Zyzzogeton 2016 Registration Deadline is March 10!
Zyzzogeton, Augsburg's annual student research symposium, will be held on Thursday, April 14, from 3-5 p.m. in Hoversten Chapel.
Students who plan to present their research or creative activity at this poster session will need to register and submit an abstract online at www.augsburg.edu/urgo by March 10 (click maroon box on right side of URGO homepage). Please work closely with your research mentors on your poster.
URGO and McNair will be hosting a Research Poster workshop where you can bring your working draft and receive one-on-one feedback and help on Wednesday, March 23, from 4:30-6 p.m. in SVE 204. We will be providing dinner, so please RSVP to urgo@augsburg.edu if you plan to come.

The Honors Council, the governing body of Augsburg's Honors Program, is seeking nominations for a new member. The Honors Council is comprised of 8 students and 8 faculty. The Council meets once a month with the Honors Director to determine program policies and curriculum, and collectively decides which students will be admitted to the Program.

Environmental Student Leaders Action Network has introduced Terracycle bins to the Urness bathrooms. The bins will collect Personal care products such as: toothpaste, toothbrushes, shower products, deodorant, etc.
The floor that collects the most wins a PIZZA PARTY! The competition ends on March 10! There is another Terracycle bin for community use in Christensen.

Christensen Scholars participate in a yearlong academic seminar (REL 405/406) led by Professor Mark Tranvik, earn four upper division semester credits in the Religion Department, and receive a $2,000 scholarship. The 2016-17 seminar will explore great stories of faith. It is designed for those with a lively sense of curiosity and a desire to talk about "big questions" involving God, evil, doubt, salvation, and vocation.

This award is given to one Augsburg senior each year at Commencement.

Mentor for Augsburg College Youth Theology Institute (ACYTI)
Current students - Are you interested in growing in your faith, being a role model and positive influence for high school youth, and developing meaningful relationships? If so, then we've got the perfect job for you!
DETAILS
Augsburg College Youth Theology Institute (ACYTI) is a week-long experience for Senior High students to critically engage in theological inquiry and faith exploration on the campus of the college. Classroom learning, worship opportunities, urban exposure, and community building are all components of the program.
An ACYTI Mentor serves a vital role in the Youth Theology Institute by helping to implement programs and cultivate community as faith leaders working with the Senior High youth participants. A mentor must be able to participate in training beforehand and be available during the full week of ACYTI, be willing to develop healthy relationships with the participants, exhibit leadership skills to faithfully guide participants in learning, worship, and fellowship activities, prepare and lead at least one- 20 minute worship experience and one afternoon or evening activity during ACYTI, enforce rules and boundaries to keep participants safe, and collaborate with other staff and mentors to support other activities throughout the week of ACYTI.
Required Experience:
We are looking for mentors that have leadership experience with children/youth, someone who models a vibrant Christian faith that seeks meaning, trusts God, and serves the neighbor, worship leadership skills and/or musical abilities are desirable, but not required, and a mentor that is comfortable leading and guiding high school students who may only be a few years younger than the mentors.

As previously announced, Augsburg College is participating in the 2016 Great Colleges to Work For survey. The survey opened Monday, February 22 and will remain open until Friday, March 4. Eligible participants will receive an email from ModernThink which will contain a survey invitation and link to the survey.

Roosevelt Mansfield Aka DJ Digie of DigieMade LLC has been a part of the Twin Cities Hip Hop Music Since the early '90s and Djing since 2005.
Digie was a part of the Twin Cities Hip Hop Legend Award winning group Abstract Pack.
Digie has produced tracks on his Debut solo project "The R.D.M. Experience" in 2004.
2004 - Developed curriculum, and taught a class called Lyric Writing And Stage
Etiquette for High School For Recording Arts.
Produced 13 out of 15 tracks off his 2009 sophomore project "Priorities",

CHADWICK "NILES" PHILLIPS: (Avant Garde/Hip Hop, History, and the Arts)
Chadwick "Niles" Phillips is a renaissance man within the world of the arts. He graduated from Michigan State University in 2006. Upon moving to NYC, he won the "Who's Next"/HOT 97 Talent Search in 2006 which enabled him to release a single on Major Label/Koch Records. He also has worked in film for BET, CBS, MTV and NYC Fashion week. He was the host of the legendary "Poet's Groove" open mic in Minneapolis for 2 and a half years. He is the founder of the curriculum "Hip-Hop, History and The Arts" that he teaches at schools all around the Twin Cities. He also is the Founder/CEO of The Avant Garde, LLC which is a music, arts & entertainment production company geared towards providing a platform for highly seasoned artists of all avenues throughout the Twin Cities metropolis. He is working on his debut album entitled "To Remain" which will be released the summer of 2016.
Rodney Rush:RushCityThaGreat:(Producer, Mentor, Twin Cities O.G.)
Rodney Rush is a part of the foundation of hip hop in Minneapolis. A former member of Wolfpack 1,Mentored in by the late great Jack Robinson(I.P.R. Founder) has worked for the first non-profit label E.M.W. records. A long time studio engineer he has worked with a vast amount of twin cities hip hop artists and amongst the network of individuals, he has helped to provide the means to record and promote their talents through mix-tapes and shows. He continues to play a role in the elevation and essence of hip hop and the culture it represents. His current situation is "The Producers"(Tommy Karate,R.O.D.,Brand Nu,9D3Beatz,Karma,Chuck Will Yums) and the acclaimed debut solo album coming from Nazeem Noslavename Jalees which promises to be a hip hop classic releasing spring of 2016.
BIANCA RHODES: (Saint Paul Neighborhood Network)
Bianca A. Rhodes is an Emmy award winning Media Professional and proud Cum
Lade graduate of St. Cloud State University with a degree in Mass Communication. Her
communication skills led her to become one of the first Black student commencement
speakers in the history of the university.
During her college career, she also took on politics and became the first African American
woman Vice-President of the Student Government. Along with politics,
television production became her passion and excelled in media writing, audio
engineering, videography and digital editing. Before her college career she was involved
in the Emmy Award winning show with TPT, entitled "Don't Believe the Hype." With that
show, she soon became an intern under the North Star documentary, produced by Daniel
Bergin, about Black Pioneers in Minnesota.
Currently, Rhodes is the Production & Sponsorship Coordinator for the Saint Paul
Neighborhood Network and Associate Producer for WCCO's Emmy Nominated Urban
Affairs Show Urban Perspectives. She is also the proud owner of BLovely Productions
and LeMae Photography. The mission of BLovely Productions and LeMae Photography
is to create efficient and effective videos and pictures of high quality for all walks of
life. In her spare time, she works with Youth who are interested in creating
documentaries and music videos. Rhodes motivation, confidence, and expertise has led
her to new heights and believes that her creativity will motivate others to change the
world!

March 9, Mazinaateseg: Anishinaabe Films and Their Makers
According to the Ojibwe People's Dictionary, Mazinaateseg means "it is a movie" in Ojibwe. Join us for a night of Anishinaabe short films and animation pieces. Our evening is hosted by Elizabeth Day and Heid E. Erdrich and includes selected work from their own repertoire and that of Elizabeth LaPensêe, Jonathan Thunder, and Frankie McNamara. This FREE yoga class, led by instructor Akoni Garcia, will focus on affirming and supporting our relationships with our bodies, and on honoring ourselves and learning from within. Beginners welcome, just dress in comfortable cloths, other equipment will be provided!
Brought to you in collaboration by the Center for Wellness and Counseling and the Augsburg Mindfulness Club, as part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

Each year, Augsburg College celebrates the creativity and scholarship of undergraduate students with its annual Zyzzogeton Research Symposium. The event falls at the end of each academic year and is a culmination of achievement featuring work across departments. More than 80 students participate each year, showcasing their research. A "zyzzogeton" is a green leaf-hopper as well as the last word in the Webster Collegiate Dictionary, which is a fitting symbol to mark the end of the academic year. The public is welcome, so feel free to invite family, friends, and those from the community to this exciting event!
And there will be crowd favorites nachos and Italian sodas to boot!
