All first-year Augsburg students are eligible to apply to be a 2016 Kemper Scholar!
*Up to $10,000 yearly scholarship
*2 guaranteed paid internships:
*1 paid summer internship at a nonprofit in Chicago, learning and living with 25 fellow Kemper Scholars
*1 paid summer internship at one of the many Kemper companies around the US
*Paid trip to annual Kemper Conference in Chicago; 3 summers (Hard Rock Hotel)

Off-Campus Research Information Session:

Each summer, universities, national labs, and other research institutions throughout the country offer paid research opportunities for undergraduates. In past years, Augsburg students have been accepted to programs at locations such as Harvard, Johns Hopkins, The University of Minnesota, The University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, and The Mayo Clinic, among many others.
Check out URGO's website for a list of off-campus research opportunities and then come to the information session December 3rd to hear about the experiences of students who have completed off-campus research & get tips on your own applications!

Summer Research at Mayo in Bioethics - All Majors
OPEN TO ALL MAJORS!
The Mayo Clinic seeks applicants for its 2016 summer undergraduate research program in biomedical ethics. This program is highly competitive and 4-6 students will be selected. Each student will be placed with a faculty mentor for approximately 10 weeks. Students will participate in educational sessions on bioethics research and lunch meetings with faculty.

Candidates must attach the following to the online application:

2. Resume/CV including your major, relevant coursework, honors, & related experiences
3. 5-10 page writing sample (such as a course paper), preferably on a topic in bioethics
4. Current college transcript
5. Two letters of recommendation from research mentors or professors

SPA 211 in the Spring
The Languages and Cross-Cultural Studies Dept. is looking for students interested in taking SPA 211 in the spring semester. Normally this course is only taught in the fall, but with enough student interest, could be offered this coming spring. The class would meet MWF from 1:50-3:00pm.

Hagfors Center Office Models
Life-size models of two configurations for the offices in the Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion have been constructed on the second level of Lindell Library, near the link to Sverdrup Hall. The models are indicative of the size and space of the new offices, although the final fabrics and finishes may differ.
The model offices will be up through the winter board meeting at the end of January. If you have questions or comments about the office plans, please send them to the hagforscenter@augsburg.edu. The Hagfors Center project team will review all submissions sent to that email address.
Accessibility at Augsburg Meeting Dec. 2
The Accessibility at Augsburg committee meets on Wed., Dec. 2, 3-4 pm in Lindell 202. Campus community members are welcome.
The agenda includes an update on the accessibility meeting concerning the new CSBR, and preliminary development of priorities for the FY17 budget.
STEM Peer Mentoring - Spring 2016
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Mentors (STEMM) is a student-led mentoring program that focuses to provide support to first-year STEM students in navigating their undergraduate careers and preparation for success inside and outside of the classroom.
If you are a first-year student pursuing a STEM major and are interested in receiving mentoring from an upper-level STEM mentor during Spring 2016, please complete the application found at this link: http://goo.gl/forms/6p3ACSmwi5. This week's speaker is Dr. Katy Micek from WindLogics. WindLogics is an indirect wholly owned subsidiary company of NextEra Energy, LLC and provides innovative forecasting and optimization solutions that enable low cost, reliable, and sustainable power systems. The title of Katy's talk is "Data Science at WindLogics" and she will present the mathematics behind automating the selection process as a linear programming problem and discuss skills needed while working as a data scientist.
