Busy First Week of Fall Term in the Writing Lab
The marvelous writing tutors at the Augsburg Writing Lab are now working with all Augsburg students on any writing task -- papers, reports, applications, personal statements, resumes, etc. The WL is located on the street level of Lindell Library, just left of the circulation desk. No appointments are taken; just come with ideas, drafts (in hard copy), assignments. Each year the tutors conduct about 2,000 sessions with Augsburg grad and undergrad students and had a busy first week of fall semester!
Here are the hours for fall semester:
Mondays: 11:10 - 1:40 and 6:30 - 9:30 PM
Tuesdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00; and 7:30 - 10 PM
Wednesdays: 3:30 - 6:00 and 6:30 - 9:00 PM
Thursdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00 and 7:30 - 10:00 PM
Fridays: 4:30 - 7:00 PM
Sundays: 5:00 - 8:00 PM

Global Roots Festival Starts TODAY
Global Roots Festival at the Cedar Cultural Center - This festival is FREE!
Bands from all over the world will be here in our neighborhood--416 Cedar Avenue.
The festival starts TODAY and goes through Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Wednesday's show features the music of The North American All-Stars, Hodan & Dalmar, with Augsburg Professor Bob Stacke's band.

Nabo is open from 7:30am-8:00pm
Einsteins is open from 7:30am-9:00pm with the Late Night Menu starting at 7pm.
The Commons is open from 7:30am-7:00pm. Market Place is serving Chicken Acapulco, Spanish rice, black beans, and garlic and herb roasted broccoli. Vege is serving confetti rice, balsamic baked asparagus, Cuban rice and beans, and spiced lemony brussel sprouts.

The Renaissance Festival is open weekends, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine, August 22nd through October 4th. The festival will also be open on Labor Day on September 7th and Festival Friday on October 2nd. Parking is free.

MVNA Flu Shot Clinic Coming 9/28/15
All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to get their annual flu shot when the MN Visiting Nurse Association is on campus on Monday 9/28/15 from 10:30 - 2:00 pm.
Most insurances are accepted or you can pay with cash or check ($36). The flu shot clinic will be in the group room of the Center for Wellness and Counseling locating on the first floor of the Anderson Residence Hall.

An Evening with Sister Helen Prejean
Join CGEE and the local non-profit organization "Friends of Batahola" in a fundraising event featuring Sister Helen Prejean this Saturday!
Sister Helen is an engaging, thoughtful, and wonderful presenter as she discusses her first experience being a spiritual director while walking someone to the death chamber, her journey to Nicaragua, and the non-profit organization, "Friends of Batahola".
The event is presented to raise funds for the Friends of Batahola organization, a cultural center based in Managua, Nicaragua dedicated to "Promoting a culture of gender and generational equity, which enables women and men of all ages to discover and affirm their human rights, self-esteem and the equality of all people."
We believe that anyone interested in social justice, grassroots political campaigns, Nicaragua/Latin America, and those opposed to the death penalty will be especially interested in Sister Helen's talk.

During this week, Augsburg College will host a range of events and offerings to help students explore majors and careers in the Professional Studies as part of the Strommen Center's Major/Career Exploration Series, including the Fall Career & Internship Fair and Professional Studies Alumni Panel discussion on Friday.

What is Professional Studies all about?
At Augsburg, Professional Studies includes majors in: Business administration (business administration, accounting, finance, international business, management, management information systems, marketing), education (elementary education, secondary education), health and physical education (health education, physical education), nursing, social work. However, all are welcome at these events.
What is the Major/Career Exploration Series?
Career & Internship Services, in partnership with URGO and Alumni Relations, is hosting a five-week pilot program to help students explore majors and careers. Whether you are decided on your major and/or career or still exploring, there is something for you! More than 20 events are being offered, hosted by more than 12 departments and groups, with well over 20 alumni coming back to campus to share their wisdom with students!

CWV Annual Health Fair - Wednesday
Please plan to come to the Center for Wellness and Counseling Annual Health Fair, which will be Wednesday 9/23 from 10:30 am - 1:30 pm in the Quad (weather permitting). Meet the CWC staff, some of our EP!C peer health educators, get a free chair massage, healthy food and snacks and a little pet therapy from our friends at Paws for Learning. In addition, over 40 community vendors and some employee benefit providers will be on hand with information and resources to help stay healthy all year long.

Physics faculty keeps busy
Mary Lanzerotti in the Physics Department just participated as one of four committee members on the Doctoral Defense of her student Christopher Allen. He successfully defended his dissertation in Electrical Engineering program at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) on Thursday September 17, 2015. The Chair of the committee is at AFIT, and the two other committee members are at AFIT and at Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate.
Professor Steblay Appointed to Editorial Board
Dr. Nancy Steblay, Psychology, was recently appointed to the Editorial Board of the journal "Psychology, Public Policy, and Law". Dr. Steblay is a nationally recognized eyewitness science expert who holds additional Editorial Board appointments for the journals "Law and Human Behavior" and "Applied Cognitive Psychology". Congratulations to Nancy on these significant achievements.
