Leadership Transition in CCV

I write with news of an upcoming change in leadership for the Christensen Center for Vocation (CCV).

Earlier this spring, Professor Mark Tranvik informed me that he wished to step down as executive director of the CCV in order to focus his time and energy on teaching and several specific projects linked to CCV’s mission, including a teaching fellows partnership with Luther Seminary.

Dr. Tranvik has provided remarkable leadership over the past 15 years in helping the Augsburg community to fully embrace the theological concept of vocation and its impact on our academic mission. First, in his role as project director of the Lilly Endowment-funded "Exploring Our Gifts" program and for the past two years in directing the CCV. I am most grateful to Mark for his many contributions to our community and I know he will continue to be a respected and influential leader for our mission-based work -- on the religion department faculty and as a senior fellow in the CCV.

During the past couple of months, I have engaged faculty and staff with ties to the CCV in discussions of different models for senior leadership of the CCV and its related programs. Later this summer, we will post a job announcement for a Dean for Religious Life, a new position that will direct the CCV and will integrate its work across the campus, including with Campus Ministry and the Religion department. One of the central aspects of this new role will be strong advocacy for our emerging interfaith work. We look forward to a search process that brings final candidates to campus for interviews early this fall.

I am grateful to Professor Tranvik for his willingness to extend his leadership of the CCV until his successor is named.

Paul C. Pribbenow
President

PRAYERS4CHARLESTON

On behalf of the the President, VP, and the entire Executive Board of Augsburg Day Student Government, we would like to send our condolences to the families of the victims of the vicious hate crime that has been committed in Charleston S.C. and that our prayers are with the community. We find such acts like this to be completely against the fabric of society, justice and harmony; we stand in solidarity with communities suffering from oppression of all forms. We will not let the actions of a lone individual deter our spirit, will, and fight for the common good, justice and equality here in Augsburg community, America, and worldwide. We condemn such acts of homegrown terrorism and the killing of innocent lives by anybody no matter what their identity. The victims of this horrific tragedy will never be forgotten and may they Rest in Power.

Join Us: Worship in the Chapel TODAY at 11 a.m.

This week 11 high school students from around the region are participating in the annual Augsburg College Youth Theology Institute (ACYTI) with the theme of "The End of the World As We Know It?" The students are spending the week engaging in classroom instruction led by Professor Justin Jeffcoat Schedtler and exploring the apocalyptic theme through community-based experiences and evening worships led by local musicians. Following their time at Augsburg, the students will spend the summer writing an essay on a topic of their choice related to the theme. These papers will be compiled in an online journal to be published in the fall.

The program is a collaboration of the Christensen Center for Vocation, the Religion Department, and Campus Ministry. More information about ACYTI is available online: http://www.augsburg.edu/ccv/acyti/overview/

The Augsburg community is welcome to attend a closing worship with the group and their families at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19 in Hoversten Chapel. We will gather for worship and to give this great group of ACYTI students a warm Augsburg community send-off!
