R-Users: Visualizing Data with R Weds, June 10 at 1pm

What: Second Meeting of ARG (Augsburg R-users Group) focusing on data visualization

Full description:

Have you ever wanted to use R/RStudio but didn't know where to start? Are you learning R/RStudio, but have hit a wall? Are you a seasoned R user and want to learn some new tricks?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, than ARG (Augsburg R User Group) is for you! ARG will be meeting Wednesday, June 10, in Science 108. This time we will be dipping our toes into creating data visualizations with R, specifically the ggplot2 package. Bring your laptop, your friendly spirit, and your eagerness to learn and share with this new community of R users at Augsburg.

New comers are always welcome! If you are new to R and RStudio, you can download R to your computer (for free) from this website: http://cran.r-project.org/ and you can download RStudio (still free) from this website: http://www.rstudio.com/products/rstudio/download/

Pastor Sonja Hagander Publishes in Café Magazine

Pastor Sonja Hagander, College Pastor and Director of Ministries, has an article featured in the current issue of Café, Women of the ELCA's on-line magazine. In "Faith reflections: Seeking calm," Pastor Sonja uses the story of Elijah and the widow of Zarephath, from the Old Testament, to illustrate a way for us face our busy days and create a more balanced life.

Get $5 Each for Survey and Fitness Assessment

Hello, my name is Michael Kantor and I am an Undergraduate Exercise Science student at Augsburg College. I am writing to invite you to be a participant in my study: Physical Activity Levels and Motivation in Urban Midwest College students, faculty and staff. This research is funded by URGO Summer Research Program and the Northland Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine Student Research Grant. Dr. Ana Ribeiro, Assistant Professor of Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science will be mentoring me during this project.

If you agree to participate in this study, sign up via the link below to receive a questionnaire for a short anonymous one-time online survey (approximately 5-10 minutes) about physical activity participation and motivation.

Staff will not receive $5 Target Gift Card, card allowance has ran out, but can still take the survey and Fitness Assessment.

You will be compensated with a $5 Target gift card upon successful completion of the survey and with another $5 Target gift card upon completion of optional fitness assessment.

EAST Scholars Program Funded for 2 More Years

The EAST Program will receive two additional years of funding at the current level of $195,000 per year from the CUE fund. The EAST Scholars Program is directed by Audrey Lensmire, Department of Education, and provides scholarships for East African teacher education students.

Keeping Track of Auggies

Auggies Present at NASW Minnesota Conference

Several of Augsburg's faculty and staff presented workshops at last week's National Association of Social Workers Minnesota Chapter conference. Michael Grewe (MSW) presented on "Supporting Transgender Communities." Associate Professor Christina Erickson presented on "Diffusing Individually Mandated Stress: Using a Community Peace Model to Increase Participation in Healthcare Coverage under the Individual Mandate of the Affordable Care Act." Associate Professor Barbara Lehmann and Assistant Professor Melissa Hensley presented on "From Wounded Healer to Healing Healer: Facilitating Wellness through Thoughtful Supervision." Professor Emeritus Tony Bibus presented on "Supererogation in Social Work: Deciding Whether to Go Beyond the Call of Duty."

In addition Shereen Reda, a recent MSW Graduate, received the Early Career Award from NASW Minnesota.
