6th Annual Auggies vs. Tommies Fitness Challenge

Time to take it to the Tommies! The Auggies and Tommies faculty/staff will be back at it for the 6th Annual Auggies vs. Tommies Fitness Challenge. To date WE are 3-2 in these challenges.
Before you ask, YES we are returning to our old tried and true method of reporting points . . . to me!
Read below for details.

What: 8 weeks of friendly and healthy competition
Who: Any faculty and staff (full-time, part-time, adjunct)
When: Starting February 18 – April 15
Where: Anywhere you want to work out as long as it is at least for 30 minutes (doesn't need to be all at once).
How:
30 minutes of activity = 1 point
60 minutes of activity = 2 points
14 points is the maximum points/week. Each week the winner will be announced based on the average for the team. The goal is to win the most weeks during this 8 week challenge.
· Fac/staff with an Augsburg HSA, who report their points on time every week will receive a $50 contribution to their HSA.
· Fac/staff without an HSA, who report their points on time every week will be entered in a drawing for various prizes.

Rules of the Competition:
1) Sign up by sending enke@augsburg.edu an email that you are interested in participating.
2) Keep track of the number of points earned each week (14 is the maximum/week).
3) A week starts on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday at midnight.
4) If you miss reporting your total by Wednesday @ 2:00 p.m., your points will not count for that particular week. You can participate the following week but you will not be allowed to use any points from the previous week.
5) This is a fun competition between Augsburg and St. Thomas but the MAIN goal is to get folks motivated to add some (or perhaps more) physical activity into their weekly routine.
6) Every week we will announce the school winner.
7) Folks can join in at any time in the program and their points start at that particular time.
8) Reporting points is EASY – I will send a reminder email on Tues. and Wed. of each week.
All you need to do is: 1) click “reply” to my reminder email, 2) in the upper left of your reply, click on the reply arrow, 3) scroll to “Edit Subject” and 4) replace the subject with your points (ex. 1-14) for the week. That's it!

Dates of Competition:
Week #1: Wed., Feb. 18 ends Tues., Feb. 24
Week #2: Wed., Feb. 25 ends Tues., Mar. 3
Week #3: Wed., Mar. 4 ends Tues., Mar. 10
Week #4: Wed., Mar. 11 ends Tues., Mar. 17
Week #5: Wed., Mar. 18 ends Tues., Mar. 24
Week #6: Wed., Mar. 25 ends Tues., Mar. 30
Week #7: Wed., Apr. 1 ends Tues., Apr. 7

Dan Jorgensen, former assistant professor of journalism and former director of public relations and communication, recently published a historical novel, "And the Wind Whispered." Jorgensen began the book while he still was teaching at Augsburg and before he fully retired to Colorado in 2013.

"The book is set in 1894 in the Hot Springs, Wind Cave, Buffalo Gap area of the Black Hills and unites Nellie Bly, the greatest investigative reporter of her time, with some of the Old West's leading figures in a confrontation with the McCarty outlaw gang, and in dealing with a mysterious death in wind cave," Jorgensen said.
