Teaching and Learning

Teach Abroad: Proposals Due Jan. 13

Interested in teaching a study abroad course in winter break, spring break, or summer? The proposal form for programs in 2015-16 is now available here!

https://docs.google.com/a/augsburg.edu/document/d/1oj0bEmeETz_p5MShyxenVY0ZyjKNjEOhnmVzTkczoro/edit?usp=sharing

In addition, the deadline has been slightly extended this year; proposals are due to my office by Tuesday, January 13. This gives you the entire break to work on proposals, which is hopefully a good thing!

As always, Augsburg Abroad staff are happy to meet with faculty interested in proposing, to discuss your ideas, answer questions, and give advice, if that would be helpful. We are in the office through the week of finals and the week before classes begin - just contact Andrea Dvorak at dvorak@augsburg.edu to set something up!

Community Photography Students Needed

Community Photography introduces students to the technical and artistic aspects of black and white documentary film photography while working with a nonprofit partner. The course integrates art and community with students doing both service and creating a portfolio of documentary photographs. The course culminates with a public exhibition and delivery of a portfolio to the community partner.

Community photography provides technical and creative photography skills, an opportunity to work in the community and a learning experience that uses the arts for engagement and social connection. Prior photo experience is not necessary.

The course is offered on M/W from 12-2:30 p.m. and currently seats are still available.

Please contact me if you need additional information or are interested in enrolling in the course.

Student Salah Ali Quoted in Al Jazeera Article

Auggie Salah Ali was quoted in a recent Al Jazeera America article. The story focused on how Minneapolis Somali community members are working with federal authorities to provide opportunities for Somali youth to become community leaders. Salah Ali is enrolled in Augsburg's innovative EAST teacher education program - a program that offers the first state-sponsored scholarships for development of east African teachers. He believes that having more Somalis as classroom teachers can help convince community students to stay in school.
