Teaching Civic Agency -- Workshop on Jan. 9
Faculty and staff are invited to an AACU-funded workshop on January 9, 2014: "Teaching Civic Agency Across the Curriculum"
9:30 - 3:00 p.m. Marshall Room
Lunch will be provided
Funded by an AACU "Bringing Theory to Practice Grant," this seminar will introduce participants to the new field of civic studies and explore how we might "bring theory to practice" in our curriculum. The discussion will be wide-ranging, but a specific goal of the seminar is to refine our learning goals for "Engaging Minneapolis" in the first-year curriculum. Faculty and staff who work with first-year students are encouraged to attend.
The seminar will bring together faculty, staff and administrators, along with leaders from the Sabo Center and the Center for Democracy and Citizenship, to 1) reflect on our institution's civic mission in the current context; 2) consider how our curriculum furthers students' civic engagement and development of intercultural competency; 3) explore the best ways to promote psycho-social development and civic agency among our students; and 4) refine our current curricular goals and learning outcomes.
Space is limited, so please RSVP as soon as possible to Jacqui deVries devries@augsburg.edu.
The planning team includes Katie Bishop, Harry Boyte, Dennis Donovan, Joe Erickson, Michael Lansing, Mary Laurel True, Jim Trelstad-Porter, Joe Underhill, and Shana Watters.
A short reading packet will be circulated prior to the workshop

Sublease for Apartment Near Augsburg - Jan.-April
I am looking for a sublease to stay with my roommate in our one bedroom apartment at 912 22nd Ave S., Minneapolis 55404. I am studying abroad and we desperately need someone to fill my spot. It is in Seward right next to Holiday gas station and across the street from the walking bridge over the freeway to campus.
It's $347.50 a month with a small fee for electricity. Already furnished. Looking for someone for 4 months, January-April 2014, or January-August if that is easier.
It'll only be an application to move in with a criminal background check and it is through Innovative Properties. No deposit or additional fees. My roommate is a female undergrad student, and we are hoping to find another female to fill my spot.
Contact Estelle at richar20@ausburg.edu if you are interested. Thank you.
