General Announcements

Dionne Doering Named Chief Human Resources Officer

Please join me in congratulating Dionne Doering as she assumes her new role as Director, Chief Human Resources Officer of Augsburg College. Since joining the College in 2009, Dionne has established strong, trust-based relationships across the campus community as she mentors and coaches faculty and staff from entry-level to professional and executive leadership positions. Through introducing new practices and strengthening skill sets within the Human Resources Department, she has stabilized and improved the capacity of the department. During the search it became apparent that her ability to partner with academic departments and business units while turning challenging projects into great accomplishments would be an asset to the work of the college in the coming years.

Prior to joining Augsburg, Dionne owned her own Human Resources consulting business, held related human resource positions at both the county and state levels in Idaho, and served in supervisory and management roles for Courtyard by Marriott, where she was oriented by some of the best in customer care and service. Certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources, Dionne earned her Master in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Baylor University in Texas.

The key initiatives Dionne will be leading this year include employee engagement, employee wellness, and diversity and inclusion. Dionne will expand the use of the Chronicle of Higher Education's Great Colleges To Work For survey data to learn from faculty and staff feedback as we endeavor to become an employer of choice. Dionne and the human resources team will be working to integrate several wellness initiatives into a planned, strategic offering accessible to all employees. Finally, as co-lead of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee with Ann Garvey, Dionne will work to increase the College's use of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) and related assessment tools as the College works to fulfill its commitment to intentional diversity.

A big "thank you" to the search committee for their work on this important hire as well. Search committee members included: Lori Peterson, Leah Spinosa de Vega, Kelly Anderson Diercks, Dan Hudson, Joanne Reeck-Irby, Elaine Buddington, Joe Erickson and James Vela-McConnell.

On-Line Copy Request Form - Clarification

To clarify a message from yesterday's A-Mail, walk-in copy requests with your hard copy originals are still welcome in the Copy Center. If you are requesting a job from your computer, however, the copy center requests that it be submitted through the online order form, instead of an email to copyctr. The form is important in printing your jobs correctly and efficiently.

You can locate the form on Inside Augsburg> A to Z Directory> Central Services> On-line ordering> Copy Request Form.

This form will ensure ALL pertinent information is captured, including name, telephone number, cost center, due date, # of copies, paper type, finishing options, etc. The copy job cannot be started until the necessary information is received. This will also help the staff reduce printing errors and minimize the amount of contact needed in order to correctly print your job and complete it on time.

If you have any questions or need assistance with the online order form, please do not hesitate to call the copy center at ext. 1054.

Community Dialogue on Race, Class, Zimmerman Trial

First Covenant Church Committee on Racial & Economic Justice Presents:

Faith and Justice: A Community Dialogue on Race, Class, and the Zimmerman Trial

Date: Sunday, July 21
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: First Covenant Church, 810 S. 7th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55415

This event is free and open to the public. Youth are also strongly encouraged to attend.

The recently announced "not guilty" verdict in the George Zimmerman murder trial has had a ripple effect throughout the country. Issues at the intersection of race, class, and social justice are at the heart of discussions surrounding the Zimmerman trial and the untimely death of Trayvon Martin. In order to promote healthy race relations and justice, it is important to create safe space in the community for open, honest, and sometimes painful dialogue on race, privilege, and power.

First Covenant Church seeks to be a diverse, multi-generational, urban Christian community that is a place of learning and transformation for all kinds of people. It is in that spirit that we are convening a community forum where persons of all backgrounds are invited to take part in the conversation and to identify next steps in bringing healing, reconciliation, justice and equality for all people. The forum will include a panel discussion, candid community dialogue, and inter-faith prayer.

Confirmed Panelists include:
*Rev. Richard H. Coleman, Executive Director, Hope United CDC
*Dr. Christena Cleveland, Social Psychologist
*Antonio Winston, Brotherhood, Inc. Participant
*Rev. Dr. Paula B. Nordhem, United Church of Christ
