Teaching and Learning

SS II in the Writing Lab

Tutors in the Writing Lab resumed work on July 8 and will continue through SS II, ending on August 8. Because of a reduction in library hours, the WL schedule had to be adjusted slightly. These are the hours for July 8 - August 8:

July 8 - August 8: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. (NOTE THIS CHANGE).

The Lab is located on the street level of Lindell Library, just left of the circulation desk. Tutors are available to help any Augsburg student with any writing assignment.

Questions? Contact K. Swanson, English.

Welcome to Summer Bridge 2013

Please join us in welcoming the TRiO/SSS Summer Bridge Class of 2013!

26 new Auggies begin their journey at Augsburg College with TRIO/SSS Summer Bridge! This five-week long academic program is offered to Augsburg first-year students who qualify for the TRIO/SSS program as first generation, low income, and/or having a disability, in addition to meeting academic need requirements. Summer Bridge runs Sunday, July 7 through Thursday, August 8, 2013.

Summer Bridge students will take their first two Augsburg courses: REL 100: Christian Vocation and the Search for Meaning taught by Mark Tranvik, and COM 111: Introduction to Public Speaking taught by Bob Groven. In addition to these courses, Summer Bridge students attend Supplemental Instruction sessions, workshops to learn more about Augsburg College and college life, as well as social and cultural enrichment activities. The students will develop a strong sense of community through learning and living together. The Summer Bridge program and TRIO/SSS are jointly funded by the U.S. Department of Education and Augsburg College.

We are excited to announce that this year marks the 12th annual TRiO/SSS Summer Bridge program at Augsburg! A great deal of appreciation goes to everyone who continues to help us make this program a huge success every year!

Any questions about the program can be directed to the TRIO/SSS office
612-330-1311, email triosss@augsburg.edu, or visit our webpage at www.augsburg.edu/triosss

Keeping Track of Auggies

Augsburg AAUP and MN State Conference Leadership

Congratulations to English Professor Bob Cowgill on his election as President of the MN State Conference of the Association of American University Professors (AAUP). Bob and fellow English Professor Cass Dalglish, who is continuing as a Director on the State Conference Board as well directing Augsburg's new MFA program in Creative Writing, exemplify the growing importance of AAUP on our own campus and Augsburg AAUP members' contributions to the broader organization and the profession of teaching in higher education.

I am an international physics researcher (male, over 50 y/o) coming to MN on a yearly basis and looking for a quiet place not far from Augsburg and U of M. I do not need much in terms of amenities but a bed, desk, access to washer, and kitchen area are essential.
