Community Inclusiveness: Latino/a Voices

To serve our neighbors and be inclusive of all members of our community, we need to learn more about each other. This year, CTL in conjunction with the Sabo Center and Hispanic/Latino Student Services is offering a series of opportunities to learn more. These include:

The Jessica Nathanson Scholarly Writing Retreat
The fourth annual Scholarly Writing Retreat will be held at Dunrovin Retreat Center near Marine on St. Croix from 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 14 to 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 16. Initiated by Jessica Nathanson, the retreat gives scholars time and space to work on scholarship, undistracted by meetings, classes, or even children and family responsibilities. Some come to plan an approach to a new project to be completed over the summer; others use it as an opportunity to finish articles they have been working on during the year. Registrants are accepted on a first come-first serve basis.

TFAPS -- Hybrid Learning Implementation
All faculty are invited to participate in two workshops offered by CTL and IT to support weekend and graduate faculty who are creating "hybrid" courses for 2013-14. If you are satisfied with the basic design of your courses, you only need to participate in the Moodle Labs to learn best practices for online learning and how to meet GAAC/AAC requirements for hybrid learning.
If you would like to improve the underlying design of your courses, you will also benefit from the integrated course design workshop.
Prerequisite: Please watch the screencasts in the Overview section of the Course Design Support Site (http://go.augsburg.edu/moodlelab) before coming to these sessions.

Integrated Course Design for Hybrid Learning.
The Integrated Course Design for Hybrid Learning is a hands-on workshop that explores Fink's model for course design, which integrates situational factors, learning goals, learning activities, and assessment. It addresses how to choose face-to-face and online activities to create an engaged learning community, provide direct instruction, and facilitate active, collaborative learning. Summer Registration Starts April 1
Registration for summer courses begins for all students on Monday, April 1 at 8:30am. You can search for available courses by logging into Augnet Records & Registration and using the Course Search feature. Spread Cheer and Do Good When You Buy Rotary Roses
Spreading cheer and doing good couldn't be easier when you place an order for a dozen roses from the West St. Paul-Mendota Heights Rotary Club. You get flowers to brighten the day of a friend or colleague, while profits support projects that impact students and families close to Augsburg's backyard.
The Club, whose motto is "service above self," annually sells roses to raise money for many programs including:
--Neighbors Inc. Food Shelf
--Henry Sibley High School ALMAS (Anglos Latinos Motivated to Succeed)
--360 Communities' domestic violence prevention services
--Loaves & Fishes, through which the Club serves about 2,000 meals per year on the West Side of St. Paul
--Rotary International's global work to eradicate polio through purchase and administration of polio vaccines
Orders are due by April 17 for campus delivery on April 24 (Administrative Professionals Day). The roses are a cheerful way to say "thank you" to colleagues and friends who help make Augsburg go. Roses also make a great day brightener for the people you like and love.
The cost for a dozen roses is $15, and payment is due in advance (check preferred).
To order by April 17:
--Pick your color -- a dozen red or a dozen "lollipop" (pastel) roses
--Make check payable to "West St. Paul-Mendota Heights Rotary"

--Include your office number/on-campus delivery location
Be sure to have a vase at your office on delivery day -- April 24 -- so your roses stay fresh!

Keeping Clean Yard Sale
As Spring slowly arrives, we all begin to clean out our closets, dorm spaces, homes and apartments in celebration of warmer weather.
Augsburg Step-Up and members of Project Management Section A, are asking for your help by donating your gently used clothing, accessories, dorm room/apartment furnishings, and electronics. Items will be donated to the First annual Keeping clean Yard Sale, Fundraiser and Informational. Being held on Friday April 5, 2013 In the Oren Gateway Atrium (Date Change) from 11am-8pm
We as Students of Project Management Section A are looking to raise awareness and support of Augsburg's Step-Up program, the country's largest residential college recovery program. Every year Augsburg's Step-Up program serves and assists around 85 students from around the country and has served over 600 individuals during its strong sixteen year history.
All the proceeds made from this yard sale will go to the building of a Scholarship fund that would benefit the countless Students within the Step-Up program who cannot afford the ever rising cost of tuition, housing, and books.
With the help of donations from the Augsburg community and the broader surrounding Twin Cities area, we hope to make a difference and show our support for a pivotal group in our Augsburg community. All donations can be made to us in the Christensen Center on:

3rd Roommate Needed for Townhouse 06/01
ABOUT THE PLACE:
Townhouse in walking distance of the light rail, Augsburg campus, and Pizza Luce.
If you are an Auggie DPS will pick you and drop you off from our house.
3 story home with patio in front. All cream carpeting minus the hardwood in the dining room. Living room & dining room fully furnished with flat screen TV and Lazy Boy coach.
Two full sized fridges plus FREE laundry on site.
You HAVE to be okay with cats because mine isn't going anywhere. :)
ABOUT THE ROOM CHOICES:
There are TWO ROOMS available and my friend/future roommate Lindsey is fine with whichever one you don't want, so here are your options.
1st choice: Bedroom 3rd floor next to occupied bedroom. 1/2 of a walk in closest, two windows, cream carpet, and you'd be sharing a bathroom with me. ($400ish/month)
2nd choice: Bedroom in basement. Blue tiled flooring, 2 built in full closets, full refrigerator in room right next to yours, your own PERSONAL full sized BATHROOM with bathtub/shower. My roommate currently describes it as "A home in itself" because you have your own mini kitchen/full sized bathroom/laundry all downstairs with you. (Upper $400ish-$500/month)
[PRICING: Because I currently live here now and the lease is under a graduating student's name who is moving out I am unaware right now if we are RENEWING or starting a new lease. This is why I'm estimating prices right now between $400-$500 depending on the room you want.)
ABOUT THE ROOMIES:
We are both college students in our 20's -- one of us at Augsburg College and the other at Normandale. We both have part time jobs plus family that live in the suburbs. We enjoy going out at night to local bars, roadtrips, being lazy and watching movies, running around Calhoun, and our cat Lucas. We both have Netflix and Hulu+ to share with you along with we are both servers at a Thai restaurant in the city (so that means leftover/free food to share!) We aren't neat freaks but we will expect the common areas to be treated with respect and such.

We're looking for a roommate to renew our lease on JUNE 1ST
It may possibly be starting a complete new lease because the person who's name it is under now is moving out because she graduated
Depending on what room you want rent will be from $400ish - $500.
+ Utilities (Cable, internet, heat, etc.) is normally ranging from $50-$90 a month depending on the season.
