Physics Program Enhances Diversity Efforts
The physics department has been accepted into the American Physical Society's (APS) Bridge Program. This program aims to develop a coalition of academic institutions that share a commitment to increasing educational opportunities for underrepresented minority physics students. Augsburg is one of three colleges out of the 27 currently enrolled programs (which include colleges and universities as well as national labs, non-profits, and educational organizations). The APS is one of the premier national professional societies for physicists.
Interfaith Scholars Program: Apply by February 11
Attention current sophomores and juniors: Do you have an interest in exploring the religious diversity of the Augsburg student body, the wider Twin Cities community, and the United States through inter-religious dialogue and action? Do you want to be a part of an academic cohort that engages in regular service learning and public leadership? Will you be studying on-campus all of 2013-2014? If so, consider applying to be in next year's Interfaith Scholars Program.

Spanish Conversation Meets Today
Ready to practice your Spanish?
Looking for a place to chat in Spanish and meet new people? We've got just the thing for you - Spanish conversation group! All language levels are welcome to join us for laughs and interesting conversation as we practice speaking in a relaxed and friendly setting.
We meet every Thursday from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Riverside Room, 2nd fl. of the Christensen Center. Signs will be posted. Drop in at any time and stay for as long as you like. We promise there will be no grammar lessons! You are welcome to bring your lunch.

BENEFITS AND COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST
The Benefits and Communication Specialist manages the communication of both day-to-day activities and on-going strategic initiatives for Human Resources. This position serves as a liaison with insurance brokers and vendors for the College, and coordinates communication and employee meetings for College benefits. This position serves as the first point of contact on workers' compensation, wellness initiatives and tuition benefits. This position will also manage several on-going projects, including updates to benefit materials, compliance documents, total reward statements, web and moodle content, employee surveys, and policy updates.
Requirements include:
A bachelor's degree in Business, Psychology or a related field required. Master's preferred. Three or more years of experience coordinating communication, such as drafting high-level correspondence and updating web content required. Experience working with confidential or sensitive records required. Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases. Demonstrated ability to manage projects and meet deadlines required.

Internship Opportunity in China for 2013 Grads and Alums
The United International College (UIC), Augsburg's partner college in Zhuhai, China, is recruiting college graduates for a one year teaching internship with undergraduate students. Graduates in any discipline may apply. Responsibilities include tutoring, reviewing papers and leading co-curricular club activities.
Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 and an excellent command of written and spoken English. Internships are available in the following academic departments: English Language Centre; Teaching English as a Second Language; English Literature; Computer Science and Technology; Applied Psychology; Business and Administration; and Public Relations & Advertising. Staff Senate is seeking nominations for the 2012 Augsburg College Outstanding Staff Awards. This award is intended to recognize exceptional Augsburg staff members who exemplify the mission statement of the college through their actions.

Kajoog's Invisible Art TONIGHT, 7-8:30 p.m. OGC 202
Join members of the Somali Youth group Kajoog for an exploration of arts in the community--from spoken word, hip hop, and story-telling, to painting and photography (in Oren Gateway Center 202). These workshops, held every other Thursday evening, are free and open to the public. People start gathering around 6:30, the workshop starts around 7, and they are always a lot of fun.

The Augsburg Alumni Board invites you on Wednesday, February 13 6-8:30 p.m. to an evening of networking. Connect with fellow Auggie alumni from a variety of professions and help Augsburg students hone their professional networking skills as they prepare to venture out into the working world. Mardi Gras Madrigals10th anniversary! 2/12, 6:30
Huzzah! It's time once again for Mardi Gras Madrigals! This is the midwinter party you cannot miss. Come celebrate with the Goliard Society of Medievalists.
As always, there will be a full medieval feasteaten with your hands. This year, the internationally acclaimed early music group The Rose Ensemble will return to Mardi Gras Madrigals. We also have special guests: the Renaissance Quartet, a juggling troupe from Edina High School. There will be lots of goofiness, buffoonery, and, of course, beautiful music from invited high school choirs and Augsburg students and alums. Don't miss it!
Mardi Gras Madrigals takes place on Tuesday, February 12 in Hoversten Chapel. Doors open at 6:30pm. Box office opens at 6pm. Tickets are $20. Augsburg students get in free, but you must still make a reservation.

Benefit Concert for Avenues for Homeless Youth
Announcing: New Day Rising --- Vocal Point Chorus's Annual Benefit Concert featuring Jearlyn Steele and the Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota
Who benefits? You - the music will be great. But more importantly Avenues for Homeless Youth, a non-profit that provides emergency shelter, short-term housing and supportive services for homeless youth.
When? February 9 and 10 at 4 p.m.
Where? Central Presbyterian Church, Downtown St. Paul
How does it work? Buy a ticket ($15 Adults/$5 Students advance sales or $20 adults at the door). Ticket revenue supports cost of production. Bring a free-will donation to the concert, 100% of which will go to support Avenues for Homeless Youth. Have your contribution matched by the Otto Bremer Foundation.
