Refrigerators for Bid
The following items are going to be put up for sale in the Recycle Bin. Please check them out on the Facilities Recycle Bin Moodle site, or they can be viewed by stopping by the Facilities Office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. Bids will be accepted until 10/31/12.

Don Chu's The Department Chair's Primer: What Chairs Need to Know and Do to Make a Difference

The Department Chair's Primer provides the practical information that chairs need to do their jobs well. Many of the book's ideas come from practicing chairs and are proven strategies for dealing with a variety of issues. Each chapter details a particular problem, includes a brief introduction to the topic, provides tips on how to deal with the situation, and concludes with targeted questions for further consideration. Its concise format is ideal for busy chairs which need a brief but informative resource.
The readings will serve as a catalyst for conversations among chairs about how to be more effective.

Over 500 Tutees and Fall Break Schedule in the WL
So far this term, tutors in the Writing Lab have conducted over 500 conferences with students on their writing assignments. Join them!
Here are the hours:
Monday: 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.; 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 12 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.; 3 - 5:30 p.m.; 7:30 - 10 p.m.
Wednesday: 3 - 5:30 p.m.; 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Thursday: 12 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.; 3 - 5:30 p.m.; 7:30 - 10 p.m.

Nabo and Einstein's will be closing at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. They will be closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The Commons will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for Brunch (11:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m.) and Dinner (5:00-7:00 p.m.)
Nabo:
Nabo is offering a new meal replacement special, one meal plan meal per week can be used to purchase the special of the day at Nabo from 1:30 p.m. to close. Hot apple cider is now available at Nabo!
The special today is Garlic Chicken Pasta with a breads tick and a fountain soda.
Einstein's is also now serving Caramel Apple Cider to warm up your autumn! They are also featuring new scones, try a blueberry or cinnamon chip.

Annual Benefit Enrollment Period
The annual benefit enrollment period will be from November 7 - November 21. Human Resources will be sending out an email to your Augsburg email address and a letter to your home early next week with more details. However, in the meantime, please block off your calendar to attend one of the five benefit enrollment sessions:

CCHP Convo Thank You
The CCHP convo planning committee wants to thank nearly 500 students, faculty, staff, and community members for attending the CCHP convo with Dr. Henry Emmons last Friday and Saturday. The evaluations received provided very good feedback.
Some of you were unable to purchase Dr. Emmons' books -- The Chemistry of Joy and The Chemistry of Calm. Both are now available in the Augsburg Book Store for $15 each (plus tax). If you are interested in getting a copy, please stop by the bookstore this week and see Tracy who will be able to help you with your purchase.

Cooking Classes Every Tuesday 7-9 p.m.
Campus Kitchen is excited to announce that we will be restarting our weekly Cooking Classes, every Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. in the Christensen Central Kitchen. Here we'll learn how to cook healthy and affordable meals that will be served to youth at Brian Coyle -- we serve there every day 4:30-5:15 p.m. All who participate also will be fed themselves, and most likely sent home with food.

Native American Film Series and Lecture Nov. 2
The Augsburg Native American Film Series in co-sponsorship with American Indian Studies, American Indian Student Support Program, Augsburg Indigenous Student Association, History, and Religion present the following programming on November 2, 2012:
Past, Present, Future: Presentation on Dakota History and Vision. Speakers include: Dale Weston (Dakota) and Jim Rock (Dakota). Hosted by Augsburg Indigenous Student Association President, Rikki Dalton

The presentation will be followed by a reception hosted by American Indian Student Services in the Music Hall atrium next to Sateren.
Dakota 38 screening and discussion with co-filmmaker and producer Sarah Weston, moderated by Dale Weston.
Dakota 38 is a documentary about Jim Miller's experience in 2005. "A Native spiritual leader and Vietnam veteran, (Jim) found himself in a dream riding on horseback across the great plains of South Dakota. Just before he awoke, he arrived at a riverbank in Minnesota and saw 38 of his Dakota ancestors hanged. At the time, Jim knew nothing of the largest mass execution in United States history, ordered by Abraham Lincoln on December 26, 1862. "When you have dreams, you know when they come from the creator... As any recovered alcoholic, I made believe that I didn't get it. I tried to put it out of my mind, yet it's one of those dreams that bothers you night and day."
Now, four years later, embracing the message of the dream, Jim and a group of riders retrace the 330-mile route of his dream on horseback from Lower Brule, South Dakota to Mankato, Minnesota to arrive at the hanging site on the anniversary of the execution. "We can't blame the wasichus anymore. We're doing it to ourselves. We're selling drugs. We're killing our own people. That's what this ride is about, is healing." Used Bike Drive - Friday, October 26
Cleaning our your garage or storage room in preparation for winter? Drop off repairable used bikes at the Sabo Center House (624 21st Ave. S.) anytime between 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26. All bikes collected will be donated to SPOKES, a non-profit community bicycle and walking resource for the Cedar-Riverside, Seward, and Phillips communities in Minneapolis. The goal of SPOKES is to get more people to use biking and walking for transit, recreation and exercise. SPOKES provides reliable low or no cost bikes, classes, programming and a space around which to build a diverse and thriving biking and walking community.
