Writing Lab Hours for Winter/Spring
The Augsburg College Writing Lab, located in Lindell Library (street level, left of the circulation desk), is now open for business. Last term, tutors in the lab conducted almost 1300 sessions working with students on their writing assignments. Tutors can help writers at any stage of their writing process. No appointments are taken; just stop by. Hours are as follows:

The Jessica Nathanson Scholarly Writing Retreat
The third annual Scholarly Writing Retreat will be held at Dunrovin Retreat Center near Marine on St. Croix from 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 29 to 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 31. Initiated by Jessica Nathanson, the retreat gives scholars time and space to work on scholarship, undistracted by meetings, classes, or even children and family responsibilities. Some come to plan an approach to a new project to be completed over the summer; others use it as an opportunity to finish articles they have been working on during the year. Those interested in participating should contact Sarah Hedstrom (hedstrom@augsburg.edu). Registrants are accepted on a first come-first serve basis.

Well-Being Series
CTL sponsors a series focused on well-being. It includes a broad look at well-being based on Rath & Harter's book Well-Being: The Five Essential Elements. This monthly series is held 12:00-1:30 pm on the second or third Friday in the Augsburg Room, and includes a copy of the book and a diagnostic. It consists of the following remaining sessions:

Thinking About Teaching and Advising
Modeled after the popular Speaking of Scholarship Series, these presentations and conversations are designed to share what we are learning about teaching and advising. Sessions are scheduled on Thursdays from 11:50-1:20, and involve presentations followed by informal conversations about the issues raised by these experiences. The intent is to increase awareness of teaching innovations on campus and learn from each other's experiences.

Blended Learning Series
Blended learning has come to mean everything from web-enhanced face-to-face learning to, but not including, courses that are fully online. Integrating online technologies can enhance and enrich learning; online tools also help differentiate instruction. A recent meta-analysis reported by the U.S. Department of Education found that blended learning produced higher performance on learning outcomes than either online or face-to-face learning.
The Blended Learning Series, co-sponsored by IT, is offered from 8:30-10:00 on Third Wednesdays in Lindell 202, and includes the following remaining spring workshops:

Nominations are now being accepted for the 13th annual Augsburg Leadership Awards! Students, staff, faculty, alums, and community members are strongly encouraged to nominate their fellow student leaders, student groups, and student group advisors for a variety of awards. Free Lockers Available for Students
Campus Activities and Orientation has a limited number of lockers that students can reserve for their use for the academic year. These lockers are completely free and are located on the ground floor of Science Building. Lockers are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and priority is given to students who commute from off-campus. Teach English in China
Augsburg's partner college, the United International College (UIC) in Zhuhai, China, is recruiting college graduates from Augsburg to assist in teaching English to undergraduate students. Augsburg graduates in any discipline may apply for a one year teaching assistantship (TA) to begin in August of 2012. Responsibilities include tutoring, reviewing papers and leading co-curricular club activities. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 and an excellent command of written and spoken English. What's Happening in Honduras?
Please join us in Spanish Conversation Group this Thurs. for a conversation in English and/or Spanish centered on Honduras. We will view and discuss a short video made by a Latina Augsburg student that focuses on the escalating violence and lack of justice currently occurring Honduras. The author of the video will be with us from 11:00-11:50. If you are attending later, we can view the video again and continue the discussion. Our group meets from 11:00-1:00pm. in the Riverside Rm., 2nd fl., Christensen Center (turn right at the top of the stairs). Signs will be posted. Stay for as long as you like, bring your lunch if you wish.

Want to be a Peace Scholar?
Undergraduate students are invited to apply for the Peace Prize Forum Peace Scholars program. Two students from Augsburg will be selected to participate in the program with seven scholars from the four other colleges in The Peace Prize Forum consortium. The scholars will participate in a six-week summer school program at the University of Oslo, Norway, designed to deepen their understanding of issues related to peace, justice, democracy, and human rights. The scholars will participate in the Peace Prize Forum and will be advocates for the annual forum and other peace activities on the Augsburg campus.
Criteria and Application:
Strong academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
1,000 word essay articulating the applicant's interest in peace issues, evidence of commitment to peace study and/or activism, and goals for being a peace scholar.
Open to full-time first year, sophomore or junior undergraduate students.
Two letters of recommendationone from a faculty member and another from either a faculty or staff member.
Applications are due February 20, 2012.

Apply for Summer Biomedical Ethics Research
Internal applications for the Vann Fellowship for Biomedical Ethics Research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN are now being accepted. This is a paid fellowship for 8-10 weeks of research with the Mayo Clinic's Program in Professionalism and Ethics.
Examples of research topics include:
-Ethical issues in life-sustaining technologies
-Stem-cell research
-Fair/just access to basic healthcare
-Advance directives, surrogate decision-makers, cultural values, and family interests

URGO/McNair/LSAMP will cover the cost of posters submitted by Wednesday, March 28. Printing costs for posters submitted after March 28th will not be covered. To submit your poster, email it to urgo@augsburg.edu.
Work with your faculty mentor to develop and edit your poster. If you want assistance with designing or editing your poster please attend a poster making workshop on Feb. 15 OR March 8 from 4-5:15 pm in SVE 201.
If you would like help reviewing your poster, make an appointment prior to Friday, March 16. Appointments can be made by e-mailing urgo@augsburg.edu.

Ally Training I & II are offered to all faculty, staff, and students at Augsburg College to gain knowledge, skills, and resources around being intentionally supportive of LGBTQIA communities. Participants will learn about LGBTQIA history and culture, confront myths and stereotypes, discuss heterosexual and gender-conforming privilege, discuss potential scenarios, ask questions in a safe environment, and discuss next steps on how to be an effective ally to LGBTQIA individuals at Augsburg. Ally Training II continues on what was discussed in Ally Training I and looks at how gender and sexuality intersect with race, class, ability, age, and other identities.
You don't need to attend both trainings, but it's recommended that you have attended Ally Training I before signing up for Ally Training II. To RSVP for either one, please email Michael Grewe at grewe@augsburg.edu.

Last Urban Farming Classes Tonight and 2/21
With these great warm days, it feels like gardening is already right around the corner. Make that feeling really come alive with the Augsburg Urban Farming Classes. Classes are facilitated by some amazing growers with the Permaculture Research Institute and run most Tuesdays from 6-8 pm. Each class is $25 for the public, but it's completely free for the Augsburg community (just remember your student\staff ID).
