Vocatio Chapel on Jan. 23 with Alan Padgett
Augsburg College continues the tradition of the Vocatio Chapel series with Dr. Alan Padgett, Professor of Systematic Theology at Luther Seminary. Dr. Padgett will be speaking in the chapel on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 10:20 a.m.
Dr. Padgett is most particularly interested in the dialogue between theology and science, as well as such varying topics as Christian spirituality, systematic theology, and Christian ethics and the relationship between religion and science. He is currently the editor of the on-line Journal for Christian Theological Research, and he is the general editor of the book series, Sacra Doctrina (Eerdmans).

Biology Faculty Candidate Seminar - Wednesday
On Wednesday, Jan. 23, Dr. David Crowe, faculty candidate in Biology, will be giving a seminar talk entitled "Neural correlates of spatial cognition in parietal cortex." The seminar will be held from 3:45 - 4:45 p.m. in SCI 123. Refreshments will be served.

Potluck Lunch: Gender, Race, and Primary Politics
Join us for a potluck lunch and informal conversation about gender and race in primary politics: Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. in the Women's Resource Center (207 Sverdrup). It's fine to come late or leave early -- this is a relaxed, social lunch. All members of the Augsburg community are welcome!

Oren Gateway applications are available for anyone interested in living in a substance-free environment for the 2008-2009 academic year. Applications must be submitted by Thursday, Jan. 24. Free, Professional Counseling at CCHP
Did you know that you can get free, confidential, professional mental health counseling right here on campus? As an Augsburg student, you can get up to 10 free sessions each academic year! The Counseling and Health Promotion office has several professional counselors available to meet with you.
Counseling is a great place to go when you need to talk to someone who is objective and who may be able to come up with new ways to deal with your problems. And it's confidential -- what you talk about at CCHP stays at CCHP.

Sign up for Blood Donations This Week
This is a reminder that the Memorial Blood Center will be on campus next week (1/30). We will be tabling this week so you can stop by and get your donation time slot. Tabling will be on Wednesday and Friday this week from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. in Christensen Center.
You can also call the CCHP office at 612-330-1707 to get a donation time. Let's do our part to help save lives. Every 56 days with your donation you can be a hero! Please help.

MPIRG's First Meeting
The Augsburg MPIRG (Minnesota Public Interest Research Group) Chapter is having its first meeting of the semester on Wednesday, Feb. 6 in the Riverside Room of the Christensen Center at 6:30 p.m.!
In case you forgot, MPIRG works on solving social issues and creating change. Our topics include:

2. Homelessness
3. Affordable Housing
4. Environmental Sustainability
5. Fair Trade
6. Women's Issues

Presentation on Jane Addams
Join the Social Work Department for a presentation by Jane-Addams scholar President Paul C. Tickets For Augsburg Theatre's Next Mainstage Show
Tickets are now on sale for the Augsburg Theatre Departments production of "The Visit," directed by Luverne Seifert '83. The show will perform Feb. 1,2,7,8 and 9 at 7 p.m., and February 3 and 10 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are priced at
$10 for General Public
$8 for ACTC faculty and staff
$5 for non-Augsburg students
$2 for Augsburg students and children under 12
(Augsburg students need to bring their student ID.)

Writing Lab Opens Monday
The Augsburg College Writing Lab will open for spring semester on Monday, Jan. 21. The Lab is located on the main floor of Lindell Library, to the left of the entrance. Regular hours are as follows:
Monday: 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Tuesday: 3 - 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 - 10 p.m.
Wednesday: 3 - 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Thursday: 3 - 5:30 p.m.

Keeping Track of Auggies
Presentation at Teaching and Learning Conference
David Matz (Psychology) and Emily Hause (Augsburg Psychology Dept., 1995-2005) recently presented a paper at the National Institute for the Teaching of Psychology in St. Petersburg, FL. In the paper, they describe and evaluate an original classroom demonstration for helping students to understand and remember the central limit theorem.

"Perk at Play" at Augsburg TONIGHT
Eric Perkins of KARE-11 Television will be at Augsburg tonight (Monday 1/21) to film one of his popular "Perk at Play" segments before Augsburg's men's basketball game against Bethel.
Perkins will join the Augsburg "Bunch of Guys Chorus" to sing the National Anthem before the men's basketball game at 7:45 p.m. at Si Melby Hall. Tonight's game is part of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader against Bethel (the women's game starts at 5:45 p.m.).
The "Bunch of Guys Chorus" was formed by Pastor Dave Wold (the public address announcer for Augsburg football, men's basketball and wrestling) several years ago, where he invites any male in the audience to come down to the court to sing the National Anthem. The chorus also occasionally sings in the daily chapel service.
