The $1,000 award to an Augsburg student will go to an outstanding essay or project focused on the theme: The Opportunity and Challenge of Direct Democracy. The essay or project should involve research on the concept of direct democracy. The winner will make a 10 minute presentation at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum to be held at Augustana College March 9-10, 2007. Interested students must submit a 200-word abstract/proposal by Monday, Dec. 4. For more information, contact Associate Dean Orv Gingerich at ext.1383, gingerio@augsburg.edu

THINKING ABOUT LIVING IN NEW HALL or THE OREN GATEWAY CENTER?
Message: Do you still have United Way or Community Solution forms to hand in?Great! It's not too late and I would be very, very glad to come pick your form up (or bring you another one!), or you may certainly put it in inter-campus mail (Campus Box #146 will get to me). We have been given an extension until Tuesday, December 5. Thank you to all for your generousity.
Message: An HOURCAR hub has been established at Augsburg College for the convenience of the Augsburg community and surrounding neighborhoods. President Pribbenow authorized funding to keep the hub active at Augsburg for the next three years to foster alternative transportation options for College faculty and staff and to provide the service to nearby neighborhood citizens who might not otherwise have the option. It is hoped that Augsburg faculty, staff and students will take advantage of this option to augment routine commuting via public transit. People who use public transit for their daily commute will have use of a vehicle for campus business that requires a vehicle. Anyone who wishes to sign up for the program (as an individual member) can do so by going to: http://www.hourcar.org. Future talks with HOURCAR will lead to a special membership program for Augsburg Departments who wish to sign up as a group for a "campus business only" membership.
Message: Several of us in the Education Department missed the last couple episodes of Grey's Anatomy (Nov. 16 and Nov. 23). Did anyone tape it? Let us know. Thanks!

That would be the Marshall Room in Christensen Center this Thursday, Nov. 30 at 1:30 p.m. Painter Teresa Cox, whose exhibition "Subjective Mapping" is currently on view in the Christensen Center, will be talking about her life in art.
