The Academic Alert system is up and running for the term. Thanks to each of you who submitted Academic ALERT messages in the past. We hope you will continue to use ALERT. All Instructors, Day/Weekend, regular/adjunct, are encouraged to send an ALERT message to students when academic problem areas are identified. Problem areas might include, but are not limited to: lack of attendance, unprepared for class, poor performance on test and assignments, and or lack of participation. ALERT is not meant to replace face to face interaction with students. Each of you likely addresses academic issues with students as they arise. The ALERT message can however be used in addition to speaking with the student and/or when you have been unable to reach them via phone or e-mail. The electronic ALERT message replaces the paper format of the Mid-Term Progress Report. We hope that by reporting concerns early, students will have greater opportunity to correct the situation and salvage the course.

Have you checked your Augsburg e-mail account lately and found a message with the subject line AA and followed by your name? Perhaps youve avoided opening this message in fear of infecting your computer with a virus. Thankfully this isnt another virus. It also isnt a hoax. If you receive this message, youve gotten an Academic Alert from a concerned instructor. Its important that you open and respond to the instructors academic issues.

Message: If you will soon be recruiting for a new hire in your department or you are simply curious about how the process works check out A Guide for Successful Searches for Staff at Augsburg College located on the HR public drive. The guide clarifies the staff recruiting and hiring process, helps create a richer and more diverse applicant pool, shortens the time required to fill a position, and provides information on how the staffing process can help support current employees development and vocational goals. Through this guide many questions and concerns may be addressed however, you can always feel free to contact HR for assistance.
Message: Attention students: Did you know that you can get free, confidential, professional mental health counseling right here on campus? As an Augsburg student, you can get up to 10 sessions free per academic year! The Center for Counseling & Health Promotion has 7 counselors available - Nancy, Beth, Jamie, Pahoua, Korinne, Dan and Lyle. Counseling is a great place to go when you need to talk to someone who is objective and who can help you come up with new ways to deal with your problems. Best of all, it's confidential. What you talk about at the CCHP house, stays at the CCHP house. Call Dianne at 612-330-1707 to make an appointment or stop by the house at the corner of 21st & 7th. For more information on counseling and health promotion check out our website at www.augsburg.edu/cchp
