"This program is the first of its kind to bring women together from the African American community and the African immigrant community to learn from each other," said Vivian Jenkins Nelsen, President and CEO of The INTER-RACE Institute. "We have had successful dialogue groups to bring groups together for many years at INTER-RACE. But this effort marks a new challenge for us." Qamar Ibrahim, Executive Director of the L.E.A.D. Group said "We have needed to hear each other's stories and find ways to support each other." The dialogue groups will begin on January 28th, 2006 at 1 - 3 p.m. with a free lunch at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. Nelsen and Ibrahim are inviting "Women of goodwill to learn about each other's histories and cultures so that we can begin a new chapter of understanding and activity together." Women from both the Somali and African American communities have trained as co-facilitators of the groups. "Young women and girls will be our next dialogue groups," said Nelsen and Ibrahim. To sign up for the dialogue groups and reserve a lunch call the INTER-RACE office at (612) 339-0820 by Monday, January 23rd.
