Find the Writing Lab

The marvelous writing tutors at the Augsburg Writing Lab are now working with all Augsburg students on any writing task -- papers, reports, applications, personal statements, resumes, etc. The WL is located on the street level of Lindell Library, just left of the circulation desk. No appointments are taken; just come with ideas, drafts (in hard copy), assignments. Each year the tutors conduct about 2,000 sessions with Augsburg grad and undergrad students. Here are the hours for fall semester:

Mondays: 11:10 - 1:40 and 6:30 - 9:30 PM
Tuesdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00; and 7:30 - 10 PM
Wednesdays: 3:30 - 6:00 and 6:30 - 9:00 PM
Thursdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00 and 7:30 - 10:00 PM
Fridays: 4:30 - 7:00 PM
Sundays: 5:00 - 8:00 PM

Step Into Fall with the Steps Program

STEPS PROGRAM
Monday, September 21th through Sunday, November 1st

On Your Mark…Get Set…Walk!
Get laced up and ready to hit the road while walking your way to improved health. The Steps Program will help you get out of your seat and get moving as you increase your daily step count.

Get off to a great start!
* The challenge is designed to gradually increase the number of steps you walk each day.
* Pedometers are available while supplies last. Pick up in Human Resources, in Memorial Hall room 19.
* Keep track of your steps. Log sheets, walking maps and steps conversion charts to be sent via email with your registration confirmation.
* Participate in other exercises you enjoy and use conversion chart for number of steps to record.

How does the challenge work?
Track your activity weekly and gradually increase your activity to reach the weekly goals.
Week 1: Average 5000 steps per day
Week 2: Average 6000 steps per day
Week 3: Average 7000 steps per day
Week 4: Average 8000 steps per day
Week 5: Average 9000 steps per day
Week 6: Average 10,000 steps per day

10/26 for steps earned 10/19 through 10/25
11/2 for steps earned 10/26 through 11/1

Looking for Some EP!C Peer Health Educators

EP!C peer health educators are looking for students to join our team. We are currently looking for 2 or 3 students who are interested in presenting to fellow students regarding making good choices in use of alcohol. If you have experience in peer education or are interested in health and wellness this may be a job you could check out.

Please check the HR student employment website to submit your application. We will also be available to answer questions at our EP!C table at the CWC Health Fair on Wednesday 9/23 from 10:30 - 1:30 pm so stop by and see what we are all about. This is a paid work-study position with flexible hours.

While Supplies Last - Renaissance Fest Tickets for Sale

Augsburg Office of Human Resources is pleased to offer discounted 2015 Renaissance Festival tickets available for purchase starting Monday, August 10, 2015 in Human Resources. Tickets can be purchased by check or cash. If paying by cash, please be sure to have exact amount.

The Renaissance Festival is open weekends, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine, August 22nd through October 4th. The festival will also be open on Labor Day on September 7th and Festival Friday on October 2nd. Parking is free.

Global Roots Festival - Starts Monday

Global Roots Festival at the Cedar Cultural Center-This festival is FREE!
Bands from all over the world will be here in our neighborhood--416 Cedar Avenue.

The festival is next Monday-Wednesday, September 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
Wednesday's show features the music of The North American All-Stars, Hodan & Dalmar, with Augsburg Professor Bob Stacke's Band.

Launch of the 2015-16 academic year, featuring posters of summer undergraduate researchers, and networking with faculty, mentors, student organizations, North Star STEM alumni, and STEM professionals.

Augsburg will have seven students presenting research posters from biology, chemistry and physics. If you are interested in attending, we will be meeting in the STEM Programs office between 5:15-5:30 to arrange carpooling.

The North Star STEM Alliance supports multicultural students interested in STEM fields. Anyone interested is welcome to attend!

Climate Change - Great for Classes on Oct. 2

On Friday, October 2, Ambassador Hans Brattskar will be available on the Augsburg Campus to talk about Norwegian Climate Policy. Hans has just resigned from his latest post at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Deputy Secretary, in anticipation for a new major Ambassadorial post. He is taking a sort of sabbatical for a year and will spend a significant amount of time in Minnesota.

In 2008, Brattskar started the Norwegian Forest and Climate Initiative (NFCI) which has now become a $1 billion/year government program.

Hans specifically requested spending time with students and presenting Norwegian Climate policy.

Annual Fair on Wednesday 9/23/15

Please join the Center for Wellness and Counseling staff for its annual health and wellness fair on Wednesday 9/23/15 from 10:30 am - 1:30 pm in the Quad. This year a very large group of community vendors (over 40!!!) in the health and mental health area as well as employee benefits will be out in the Quad (weather permitting). There will be healthy food, therapy dogs, free massages and more!

CHANCE Meeting Today - Lean about Cedar-Riverside

Please join us today (9/18) from 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm at The Common Table, 2001 Riverside Ave. (Across 20th from Afro Deli) for the first Cedar Humphrey Augsburg Neighborhood Community Engagement (CHANCE) meeting of the 2015-16 school year. CHANCE is a collaborative effort between Augsburg and the Humphrey School at the University of Minnesota to provide opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to learn about the neighborhood and to become involved. We are pleased to welcome Mohamed Mohamed, Executive Director of the West Bank Community Coalition (WBCC) to this first meeting. Mohamed will provide a brief overview of the West Bank Community Coalition and will describe opportunities for involvement in the neighborhood. Feel free to bring your lunch and come learn what's going on in our neighborhood!

Congratulations to one lucky Augsburg student, Jabril Perkins, for winning the early bird drawing for study abroad! Students who finished their study abroad applications for the short term programs in Nicaragua & Guatemala by September 15th were entered to win $500 off the cost of the program.

Dance Team Tryouts

The Augsburg College Dance Team will be holding tryouts for the 2015-2016 season this upcoming Sunday, September 20th from 9am to noon. Tryouts will be located in the gym in Si Melby Hall. If interested, please bring tennis shoes, jazz shoes and whatever clothing is comfortable to dance in.
