$1000 Grant--Study Business in Germany this Fall

Study Business in Germany this fall and receive a $1000 grant. Courses are taught in English.

DHBW – BAD MERGENTHEIM

Bad Mergentheim, with its 22,000 inhabitants, is located in the scenic Tauber River Valley in southwest Germany. It is a town steeped in history. The Teutonic Order of Knights established its headquarters there in 1525 and built the castle whose mighty walls and domed towers still dominate the town. When its mineral springs were discovered in 1826, Bad Mergentheim grew into one of Germany's most celebrated health resorts. Today, its relaxed atmosphere, its elegant stores, cafés and restaurants, the wide spa gardens, and its pools, make Bad Mergentheim an attractive place for living, working and studying.

Courses offered at this school:
BUS 340, BUS 465,ECO 112,FIN 460,GER 111,MIS 375
---------------------------------------
DHBW (Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg) Heidenheim has 1300 students and is one of eight locations of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in southwestern Germany. In addition to academic coursework, the school provides a cultural program which includes trips to other cities in Germany. The semester starts with an optional intensive German course and is rounded off by an optional work placement at the end of the semester. A buddy program is provided for the language classes.

Heidenheim is a bustling city of about 50,000 on the Brenz river in southwestern Germany. Its history goes back to the Roman Empire, and many centuries-old buildings still stand. At the same time, Heidenheim is a modern urban center with good shopping and many cultural and sports events.

Courses offered: BUS 340, ECO 112,FIN 460,GER 111,MIS 376,MKT 466
----------------------------------------------------------------
DHBW (Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg) Mosbach enrolls 1600 students and is one of eight locations of Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in southwestern Germany. The semester starts with a required intensive German course and is rounded off by an optional work placement (some German preferred for placement) at the end of the semester. Classes are small, with a maximum of 30 students.

Mosbach, a municipality of 25,000 inhabitants, is located in the heart of the scenic Neckar River Valley nestled among ancient castles and steep vineyards. The picturesque Old Town with its restored half-timber houses from the 15th and 16th centuries gives the city a medieval flavor. Yet, at the same time, Mosbach is a lively modern economic and cultural center.

Keeping Textbook Costs Down

As college costs continue to climb faster than inflation, and we operate a quasi-monopoly on many items sold on campus (such as Pepsi and many textbooks), there is an opportunity for finding ways to offer our students more choices. We can educate our students without them going broke in the process. On Monday, Mar. 12 from 3:30-5 in OGC 114, anyone interested in exploring ways to lower classroom-related costs, especially textbooks, is welcome to join the conversation. Faculty are encouraged to bring your syllabi and/or book orders (due Mar. 15) and explore how to reduce the need for students to choose between groceries and textbooks (a choice with which too many of our students today are faced). Students and staff participation is particularly encouraged. A good education shouldn't have to cost as much as it does these days, and there are some simple things we can do to help lower those costs.

Recognize Admin Support Day w/Rotary Roses

Administrative Professionals Day is April 25, and the Rotary Roses fundraiser is a great way to say "thanks" to staff who make your work life a little easier.

The West St. Paul-Mendota Heights Rotary Club's "Rotary Roses" fundraiser does good twice. First, you get a chance to make the day of a coworker by giving them a dozen roses that will be delivered April 25.

Second, nearly 50 percent of the purchase price of only $15 goes to support local charities.

The Rotary Roses fundraiser supports organizations throughout Dakota County including:
--ALMAS, a Henry Sibley High School youth group for Chicano/Latino(a) students.
--Neighbors Inc., an emergency food shelf experiencing record-high demand.
--Guild Inc., an organization that provides emergency shelter for homeless individuals with mental illness, as well as a broad range of other supports.

Roses are available in red or "lollipop," a mix of pastels. The cost is only $15/dozen. Orders can be emailed to Steff Weiss (weisss@augsburg.edu), and payment in advance is requested. The deadline to order is April 18, and delivery will be made April 25.

Thanks for your support!
