Representatives from Metro Transit, Metro Commuter Services, HOURCAR, campus bikers and the Environmental Stewardship Committee were on campus September 5 providing information about alternative ways to get to campus, including: bus and light rail, Rideshare, Van-Go!, campus car pools, biking and walking to campus.

Shortly after the bridge collapse, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak asked employers in the vicinity of the site to consider ways they could be flexible and assist their employees with their daily commute to and from work. Not only could alternative transportation decrease congestion due to the I-35W Bridge collapse, but reduce the impact on global warming and local air pollution as well as.

Augsburg day custodial supervisor Tom Ruffaner has taken the lead in this initiative by organizing the Transportation Fair as well as creating a new transportation bulletin board, which will be located in Christensen Center. This board will serve as a centralized spot to learn more about the Metro Transit bus system and light rail lines, get in touch with other Auggies interested in commuting, find information about ridesharing, contain the ACTC bus schedule and information about bike routes in the Twin Cities.

“Mayor Rybak’s request for help provides the Augsburg community with an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to urban sustainability,” said President Paul Pribbenow.  “We are happy to offer what assistance we can both to those in our neighborhood and in the greater Twin Cities area.”
