More than 200 potential new Augsburg students and their families will come to campus for Scholarship Weekend March 2 and 3.

Approximately 100 students will compete for President’s Scholarship and 100 for Fine Arts Scholarships, with several students competing for both. An additional 20 will do phone interviews for the President’s Scholarship and another 30 will send in audition tapes/portfolios for the Fine Arts Scholarship.

“Our number one goal is for these students to become connected to this place,” says McCoy. “A lot of them are still making [college] decisions, so we want this weekend to be a tool to be able to help these students make a decision.”

In order to achieve this goal, an overnight component has been added. Activities include a tagging demonstration by an art alumna, a jazz band performance, current film students showing film clips in the film studio, and karaoke. Scholarship applicants will stay overnight with current students.

“We are very pleased to announce, for the first time ever, film and art scholarships,” says admissions counselor and Fine Arts Scholarship coordinator Keith McCoy. These join the traditional categories of vocal, instrumental, and theatre scholarships.

“Current Augsburg Honors students have reviewed all the [President’s Scholarship] files, and they are hosting the President’s Scholarship competitors,” says Marissa Machado, international admissions and co-coordinator of the President’s Scholarship. “For the first time, we have four international students competing for the President’s Scholarship,” with two attending the weekend.

Fine Arts Scholarships are worth $2,500 per year, while the eleven President’s Scholarships run between $16,500 and full tuition. To qualify for the President’s Scholarship competition, one must have an ACT of 25 or higher, 3.5 cum GPA or higher, and exemplary leadership.

Thirty-eight faculty are currently helping with the President’s Scholarship interviews, while most members of the fine arts departments will meet with the Fine Arts applicants.
