Heart and soul in the kitchen

Feb. 11, 2007

Creating Valentines

Valentine’s Day is coming soon, and The Campus Kitchen crew is celebrating by cooking up dishes that care for the body and handing out Valentines that care for the soul.

Rachel Vallens, Campus Kitchen coordinator, said February can be a hard month for most of the clients the Campus Kitchens serves, so they are putting together a little twist to Valentine’s Day this year. They will be cooking up healthy meals that care for the body, and delivering homemade Valentines to nurture the soul.

The Campus Kitchens crew is making 500 homemade Valentine Day cards they will be hand delivering with the meals they serve this week.  That is a daunting task so they are getting help making the cards from all across the campus and the community.  Augsburg alumna and teacher Laura Ruder’s students at the Learning for Leadership Charter School are making Valentines, as well as Admissions director Carrie Carroll’s Girl Scout Troop and youth groups from local churches.

Volunteers are still needed at the special cooking shift on Wednesday, Feb 14 from 7-9 p.m. or Sunday, Feb. 18, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
