Oren Gateway building nearly complete

The much anticipated opening of the Oren Gateway building is set in stone for August 1, according to David Draus, Augsburg's Director of Facilities. With residence, retail, and administrative spaces over 90% complete, thoughts turn to moving the campus community into the new space.
The Barnes and Noble Bookstore space is nearly complete with fixtures currently being put in place. The new bookstore is approximately three times the size of the current store with a larger retails space, more bestsellers, more Augsburg gear and a full line of convenience items (soda, aspirin, snacks).
In mid-August, administrative and academic areas will be moving over and the classrooms and residence areas will be ready for the new school year. Results of the new eatery survey were recently published and Sodexho is currently working at incorporating the ideas into the menus. A plan is in place for a "name the new eatery" contest.
Landscapers have plans for what are called bio-retention ponds around the building. These ponds collect rainwater from impervious surfaces and filter approximately one inch of water in 3-6 hours, eliminating excess run-off into storm drains. Grand-opening festivities are in the works for Homecoming Weekend.
