Daylight-Saving Time Change May Affect Oracle Calendar, Groupwise Calendar and PDA Calendars

March 8, 2007

clockBackground: “In an attempt to save electricity, the U.S. Congress introduced a provision in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 mandating that clocks "spring forward" three weeks earlier, on the second Sunday in March, and "fall back" a week later, on the first Sunday in November. Some companies must make manual adjustments or run software "patches" to revise internal clocks, often expensive endeavors.” (From time.com)

Problem: Calendars may display meetings at the wrong time between March 11 and April 1. Whether you use a Mac, PC, Groupwise or Oracle Calendar, it is likely that some of your meeting times will be off by an hour due to this year’s earlier start of daylight-saving time.

We’ve installed the necessary patches to correct time problems with Groupwise and Oracle Calendar; however, you may still notice some meetings are listed one hour earlier, especially those which were scheduled as automatically recurring events.

To avoid calendar conflicts, please do the following:

• when scheduling meetings that will occur between March 11 and April 1, include the meeting start time and time zone in the subject line. For example, if you schedule a team meeting for 9 a.m. on March 12, create a subject line that reads, “9 a.m. CDT Team Meeting.”

• if you’ve already scheduled meetings between March 11 and April 1, update the meeting subject line to include the start time and time zone, and resend the invitation.

• if you receive an invitation for a meeting between March 11 and April 1 and the subject line does not include the meeting start time and time zone, ask the meeting owner to update and resend the invitation.
