Immigration: Who Are the Winners and Losers?

Jorge Bustamante, the Eugene Conley Professor of Sociology and the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame, will be the guest speaker at the Batalden Convocation in Applied Ethics, March 2 at 10 a.m., in the Hoversten Chapel.
Bustamante’s topic, “Immigration: Who Are the Winners and Losers?” will address the most important and challenging aspects of U.S. and Mexican immigration. He will also share his current thinking and critique of what is being done and proposed by leaders and governments on both sides of the boarder.
Bustamante, a nominee for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize and author of more than 200 publications, has been hailed as a leading expert in the field of international migration. He is a leading participant in international scholarly networks dealing with these themes and has played a major role in building and sustaining scholarly linkages between Mexico and the U.S.
He is also the president and founder of El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, the prominent Mexican institute for the study of border issues.
