'Not So Distant Neighbors'

Several members of the Augsburg community participated in a travel seminar to Mexico, August 5-12. The theme for the program was "Not so Distant Neighbors: US and Mexico Today."
The group interacted with a variety of persons and organizations including an artisan family, an indigenous health center and the Mexican Ministry of Commerce.
The purpose was to gain a better understanding of how
the issues of
immigration, NAFTA, poverty, and economic growth affect the U.S. -
Mexico relationship. President Paul Pribbenow, participated for four days
to experience this unique study abroad program. The program was sponsored
by Augsburg Abroad and the Center for Global Education with scholarships
provided by the Center for Teaching and Learning from the Hoversten Peace
Endowment.
