Women's activist, science author Sheila Tobias to speak Monday, Tuesday at Augsburg College
Noted lecturer Sheila Tobias, who has authored numerous books on science, science education, women in mathematics and women in science issues, will speak at Augsburg College at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 1 on "The Future of Feminism: Lessons from our Past" and at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2 on "The Science Trained Professional: A new Breed for a New Century."
Both lectures are free and open to the public. The May 1 lecture will be held in Room 123 of Augsburg's Science Auditorium (707 - 21st Avenue South) and the May 2 lecture will take place in the Foss Center's Hoversten Chapel (625-22nd Avenue South).
In Tobias's Monday lecture on the future of feminism, she will discuss her book, Faces of Feminism: An Activist's Reflection on the Women's Movement (1997). This event is sponsored by the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC) Women's Studies Program, celebrating 10 years of women's studies in a liberal arts context.
Tobias will give her talk on science-trained professionals during a Tuesday convocation that is a gift from Marie McNeff and Earl Alton, in celebration of their combined 72 years of service to the college as faculty members, deans and administrators.
