Augsburg College alumni recognized at First Annual Pan-Afrikan Alumni Celebration
The Pan-Afrikan Center and the Alumni Relations Office of Augsburg College hosted its First Annual Pan-Afrikan Alumni Celebration on Oct. 5, as part of the homecoming celebration. Seven Augsburg alumni were recognized for their involvement in the Pan-Afrikan Center and/or their involvement in their community. Those honored were: Judge LaJune Lange, class of 1968; Judge Pamela Alexander, class of 1974; Bessye Hughes, class of 1971; Syl Jones, class of 1973; and Karen Reed, class of 1990.
A reception was held before the program with musical entertainment by the Gene Adams Jazz Band.
The Pan-Afrikan Center serves Augsburg College by providing culturally conscious personal, academic, pre-professional and transitional support for students of Afrikan descent. It also brings knowledge and experience of Afrikan people in the Diaspora to the community through a variety of programming. Its motto is: "Learning for all Afrikan people, Learning about all Afrikan people."
