Coffee for Working SLR Film Cameras

As the new instructor of the darkroom photography class, I have taken it upon myself to try to make the class more affordable for students. I am looking for film SLR cameras so my students have one less item to purchase for the class. What I am asking you to do is to raid the back of your closets for an old film camera. Maybe one that has not seen the light of day for the last ten years (or since you bought your new digital camera/iPhone). I can't give you much for the camera, but I am will to hand out a pound of freshly roasted coffee from my local "coffee guy" at Sovereign Grounds in south Minneapolis.

In other words, you give me your old working camera, and I give you coffee.

Submit to the Engman Writing Prize by Dec. 18

The John Engman Writing Prize, a literary competition sponsored by Murphy Square and the Augsburg English Department, is awarded each year to promising writers. This year's submission deadline is Sunday, December 18. Judges of the competition will select winners in each of the categories of fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction.

To enter, writers must submit the following:

Short Fiction - One complete short story of not more than 15 pages.
Creative Non-fiction - One complete piece not longer than 15 pages.
Poetry - At least three poems.

All writers must be enrolled at Augsburg College and may enter each of the categories as often as they wish, but they may only win in one. Names of writers must not be on the works submitted.

Entries must be submitted though Moodle: https://moodle.augsburg.edu/moodlecommunity/course/view.php?id=795

The prize was named in honor of poet and Augsburg alumnus John Engman who died in 1996. Judges for the contest are English Department faculty members. The judges reserve the right to withhold awards if entries in specific categories are not of winning quality; they may also increase the number of awards in a category that has attracted entries of obvious merit. Winners will be notified in January.

Auggie Fundraiser: Come One, Come All 2 Break Free

Did you know that MN is 1 of the top 13 states in the country for high incidence in recruitment of minors? And in this day and age, there are more human slaves in the world than ever before in history.

We're students of Augsburg College wanting to combat these violent patterns with a fundraising campaign revolved around this cause. The purpose of this project is to raise awareness and acquire funds for a local non-profit organization, Breaking Free, that's dedicated to this work. We're setting out to do services provided by you that you may not have the time & energy to do in exchange for monetary donations you can contribute! As well, other donations such as non-perishable foods, diapers, cleaning supplies and toiletries are needed! We want to serve our fellow peers, colleagues and community members to come together in supporting the work Breaking Free dedicates their efforts to in eradicating human/sex trafficking.

Breaking Free is located in St. Paul and one of the few in the nation to do work surrounding advocacy, direct services, housing, and education for women and girls escaping sex trafficking.
