General Announcements

New Division of Student Success - Academic Affairs

Dear faculty and staff colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the creation of a new "Division of Student Success" within Academic Affairs. This new organizational structure is intended to support greater focus, alignment, and collaboration for student success initiatives and offices within the Academic Affairs Division; it also aims to provide a mechanism for coordinating and strengthening student success efforts between Academic Affairs and other campus divisions.

Katie Bishop, Chief Student Success Officer, will lead the new division, which includes the Gage Center (Academic Support, Advising, CLASS, and TRIO/Student Success) and the Strommen Center (Career & Internship as well as college access programs). Effective August 15, the directors of these offices will report directly to Katie.

Gage Center:

Academic Support - Benji Kent

Academic Advising - Sheila Anderson

CLASS - Kathy McGillivray

TRIO/Student Success - Aly Olson

Strommen Center

Career & Internships - Keith Munson
College Access Programs - Janet Morales

I am grateful for Katie's willingness to take on leadership of this new division as part of her responsibilities as Student Success Officer.

I would also like to take advantage of the opportunity to thank, publicly, Amy Gort for her dedicated and capable leadership of the Gage Center in addition to her work as Dean of Arts & Sciences. The new organizational structure has the added benefit of providing additional time and focus for Amy's leadership of the faculty and departments in the division of Arts & Sciences.

In the weeks ahead, Katie will put together a leadership team charged with developing a process for determining the structure and goals of the new division. This work will support achieving the institutional goal of improving student progress to graduation by 2% by 2017. The team will also review and respond to recommendations resulting from the recent review of our student success efforts.

Sincerely,

Karen Kaivola
