Public Art Invitational: July 19 Deadline

The Art and Identity Committee is excited to share a new art and design opportunity with Augsburg alumni, staff, and faculty. A team comprised of faculty, alumni, staff, and art consultants are working to bring beauty and inspiration into the Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion, and you're invited to participate.

Augsburg has engaged Forecast Public Art to facilitate the commissioning of art works for the new Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion. You are invited to submit qualifications to be considered for this opportunity.

The deadline for RFQ submission is July 19, 2016; all required materials must be received by 4 p.m. CDT. The Augsburg Art and Identity Committee will review applications and select up to 20 finalists to participate in a concept development phase.

The Art and Identity Initiative's charge is to bring expression to the guiding principles for the new Center and Augsburg's aspirations for a 21st century urban campus. Through art and identity, the Center's key interior elements and exterior spaces will illustrate a sense of beauty, harmony with place and a commitment to hospitality. As a way to express the transformative impact of the Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion, Augsburg will commission numerous works of art. Each piece will be commissioned through philanthropic sponsorship and displayed in various locations within this new signature academic building.

Greetings Augsburg College community! It's hard to believe that summer is already half over and we are gearing up for our new students to join our great community.

This year, the First-Year Student Move In will take place on Friday, August 26, starting bright and early at 7 a.m. Please plan accordingly, as there will be limited parking.

Want to welcome our new students? Feel free to stop by Urness/Mortensen lobby to welcome our students or wear your Auggie gear while at work that day or any other creative way to greet our students and their families.

McNair Scholars Summer Research Presentations

2016 McNair Summer Research Presentations

One component of the McNair Scholars Program is a 10-week summer research project. Each year students work with a faculty mentor on a specific topic, culminating in a final paper and presentation. In August students will be attending and presenting at the 24th Annual McNair Scholars Symposium at the University of California-Berkeley. If you would like the opportunity to see these presentations at Augsburg, please join us on Wednesday, July 20, at 9:30 a.m. in Kennedy 303/305. Attendees are encouraged to select topics that interest them and to offer support and feedback to the Scholars. This event is open to the public, including all interested students, faculty and staff. MFA Summer Residency - Readings and Screenings

The MFA in Creative Writing 2016 Summer Residency will be held Thursday, July 21 through Sunday, July 31. Please join us in welcoming our group of very talented students and acclaimed writers to campus for this festival of craft talks, workshops, evening readings and more.

This summer's visiting writers include Jacob M. Appel, winner of the Howling Bird Press Fiction Book Award; travel, science and nature writer Greg Breining; poet Sean Hill; and screenwriter and producer Michael Starrbury. In addition, nine graduating MFA students will be giving public readings of their works - Jennifer Holznagel, Mary Lewis, Ginny Contreras Sawyer, Katherine L Berger, Kevin Matuseski, Kirk Boettcher, Michelle Doege, Jodi Napiorkowski and Jeremy Bandow. We invite you to join us for these evening readings/screenings and receptions, at which our visiting writers will be available to sign their works. All events are free and the public is invited.
