Sad News About A Faculty Colleague

Dear faculty, staff, and students,

It is with great sadness that I write to share news that our colleague and friend, Doug Diamond, assistant professor of Music, passed away unexpectedly last Friday.

Doug has been a member of the faculty in Augsburg's Music Department since 2005. He received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from The Mannes College of Music in New York. He was a candidate for the degree, Doctor of Musical Arts, at the University of Missouri's Kansas City Conservatory.

At Augsburg, Doug was known for his strengths in developing orchestral ensembles and in classroom teaching. He served as the director of Augsburg's orchestra and taught a variety of courses, including Aural Skills, Materials of Music, and Instrumental Conducting.

Music Department Chair, David Myers, notes that "Doug's students appreciated his wit, his musicianship, and his understanding of their many commitments even as he insisted on excellence in performances and class work. Doug contributed actively and positively to the work of the faculty and department, most recently working closely with admissions to develop a system of identifying incoming students who have music interests and backgrounds. Doug's candor and positive efforts on behalf of music, students, the department and Augsburg College will be sorely missed."

Doug's family is planning a memorial service, which will be held in New York.

This Friday, June 3, the College will hold a community prayer service from 11:30-11:55 a.m. in Hoversten Chapel--all are welcome.

As we celebrate Doug's life, work, and gifts, our community's thoughts and prayers go out to his extended family and friends.

$5 Cash Incentive for Research Study Participants

Hello Fellow Auggies!

My name is Anabel Chavez, a social psychology major and McNair Scholar at Augsburg College. I am conducting research this summer, and I would like to invite you to participate in my study!

This study measures how autobiographical memories can affect satisfaction in a romantic relationship. Therefore, the study will ask for participants to disclose two personal relationship-defining memories. Participants are required to be at least 18 years of age and are currently in a romantic (but not marital) relationship. Participants are also required to have been in their current romantic relationship for at least 6 months (or longer). Anyone from the Augsburg Community is able to participate!

The study contains two phases, one which requires you to complete an online survey on your own time or at home (5-10 minutes), and the second phase requires you to come to campus to take another survey (20-30 minutes). Participants will also receive a $5 cash compensation at this time.

For any further questions, concerns, or to schedule an appointment, please send me an email at chavez@augsburg.edu
