Only A Few Spots Remain for the Writing Retreat

Do you wish you had uninterrupted time to write / work on scholarship? If so, you will want to take advantage of the annual Jessica Nathanson Scholarly Writing Retreat. Jess established a tradition of allowing faculty and academic staff time away from campus to focus entirely on scholarship. There is no schedule for this retreat - it is simply time and space to work on scholarship. The Provost and the Center for Teaching and Learning will cover the cost of the retreat.
The retreat will take place Sunday, May 15 at 1 p.m. (after lunch) through Tuesday, May 17 at 1 p.m. (after lunch). Please email ctl@augsburg.edu to reserve your space.

AAUP Webinar Today, 2:30pm, OGC 100
AAUP and CTL invite you to participate a webinar on intellectual property and university copyright policies. The session will address how copyright law interacts with copyright policies, identify how these interactions affect professor ownership and use of copyrighted works, and apply these concepts through the use of hypothetical situations. The past decade has seen a dramatic nationwide shift in the structure of colleges and universities. From dwindling tenure line positions in favor of less costly contingent labor, to altered financial priorities, what will the future of higher education look like? May 4 Workshop for Graduate Faculty
The Grad Council has been discussing ways to engage the campus more generally in conversations around graduate teaching and program support. The current campus conversations around the university question have contributed to our discussion. In December, there was a joint meeting of the Grad Council and the GAAC to talk about common issues. At that meeting both groups expressed support for more activities that would bring all faculty members who teach graduate courses together for further work that advances our programs.
Toward that end, on May 4 there will be a graduate faculty workshop in the Marshall Room. The day will start about 9am and will go through lunch -- finishing about 1pm. There will be another e-mail to follow that has more details regarding the topics and agenda, but for now, we are asking faculty from all graduate programs to mark their calendars and plan to join us that day.

Science 123 (Science of Food & Cooking) is having a materials drive. Looking for pots, pans, plates, utensils, dish rags, and other kitchen accessories. Commencement RSVPs Needed

As you know, this year both commencements are scheduled for Saturday, April 30: the Day undergraduate ceremony begins at 10:00 am, and the Adult Undergraduate and Graduate ceremony begins at 4:00 pm. In order to help the Events staff plan for what promises to be a very busy day, we are asking faculty to RSVP for one or both ceremonies. Doing so will help ensure that we have sufficient seating for faculty at each ceremony, that catering orders aligned with expected guests, and that fire marshal codes are met.

Get Paid To Do An Internship; Apply Today
Wouldn't it be GREAT if you could get paid to do an internship?
You may be able to do just that because of a grant awarded to Augsburg College. The Career Ready Internship grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation provides funds to colleges and universities so that they can partner with businesses and nonprofits to develop new paid internships, and convert existing unpaid internships into paid opportunities. This program serves juniors and seniors who receive financial aid, improving their odds of graduating and preparing them to enter the workforce with real-world experience in their fields of study.
To be eligible:
* Students must be in good academic standing (2.0+ GPA)
* Students must be a college junior or senior (60 credits completed) at the time of the internship
* Students must be eligible for financial aid (work study)
* The internship must be related to your major or career aspirations
* Accepting applications NOW for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017.
Act now! Priority consideration is given to students who complete the short Augsburg application, so we recommend you complete it soon.

Career Quick Stop is Winding Down
Students! There are two more weeks left of Career Quick Stop this semester. Stop by Suite 100 of the Christensen Center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 2:30 -4:00 p.m. These walk-in hours are meant for quick career questions and short resume reviews. Appointments will be limited to 15 minutes and students will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Quick Stop will resume in the fall!

Chapel at 11:30am: Somali Singer Jubba
Join us today at 11:30am in the Chapel for a special musical performance by Jubba, one of the most beloved Somali singers and producers active today! Jubba will be visiting Minneapolis from Toronto, Canada as part of Midnimo, a program of The Cedar and Augsburg College that builds knowledge and understanding of Somali Muslim culture through music.
Jubba began singing as a teenager in Mogadishu and was recruited to the legendary Waaberi Group after winning a popular singing competition at the age of 19. Waaberi Group was Somalia's government-sponsored music and dance troupe which included the best and most talented singers, musicians, and dancers in the country. With Jubba at the helm as one of the group's foremost singers in the 1980s, Waaberi toured China and the U.S. and performed in Oslo, Sweden; United Arab of Emirates; Doha, Qatar; Djbouti; and at a meeting of the United Nations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In the 1990s, Jubba fled Somalia and settled in Toronto, Canada, where he continues his career as one of the most beloved Somali singers and producers active today.

Minnesota Undergraduate Psychology Conference 4/23
Please join us! The Psychology Department is hosting the 51st annual Minnesota Undergraduate Psychology Conference (MUPC) on Saturday, April 23rd from 8:00am - 3:30pm. Approximately 330 psychology majors and 75 faculty members from Minnesota and surrounding states will be in attendance. The conference includes a series of student research paper and poster sessions, a psychology graduate school and job fair from 9:00am - 1:00pm in OGC100, and a keynote address from distinguished eyewitness memory researcher, Dr. Gary Wells, in the Chapel from 10:45am - 12:00pm.
