Free 10-Day Fellowship in Israel This May

The MINNE (Minne means "memory" in Norwegian) Fellows program will select one Augsburg student for a free 10-day fellowship in Israel from May 2-13, 2016. The goal of the program is to foster greater understanding between people and to educate college students about the Holocaust. The Minneapolis Jewish Federation and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) will arrange for fellows to tour Israel with Israeli peers. The visit to Israel will include a tour of Yad Vashem, Israel's national Holocaust museum, additional Holocaust educational programming as well as touring the sites of Israel.

The Minneapolis Jewish Federation and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) will arrange for fellows to tour Israel with Israeli peers.

-MINNE covers flight and land costs as well as granting students a $50/day per diem provided while the student is in Israel.
-Applicants must be U.S. citizens and registered for full time classes at Augsburg with at least one year left on campus. Students must be sophomores or above with a 3.0+ GPA.

Did You Miss the Wellness and Curriculum Workshop?

On January 7, 2016, Gen Ed and the Center for Wellness and Counseling (CWC) co-sponsored a workshop on "Integrating Wellness Across the Curriculum." The Augsburg College Health Survey Report conducted by U of M Boynton Health Service, now posted on the Gen Ed Moodle, shares data about student health trends at Augsburg.

An Executive Summary of the workshop is now on the Gen Ed Moodle as well. It highlights some of the data about Augsburg students and how they align and depart from general student health trends. Also highlighted in the summary are specific issues for faculty, topics for future discussion, next steps, and specific examples from the faculty panel about how to incorporate well-being into classroom practices.

Join the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Christensen Center for Vocation (CCV) for a time of reflection, recognition, and celebration of professor Michael Lansing's call to scholarship.

The Associate Professor of History will showcase his new book, "Insurgent Democracy: The Nonpartisan League in North American Politics," and share his ideas on what it means to be a teacher-scholar-citizen. The title of Michael's talk is "Insurgent Democracy: New Visions of the Nonpartisan League."

Peace Scholar Applications Now Being Accepted

Augsburg sophomores and juniors with a strong interest in peace and justice issues are invited to apply for the 2016-17 Nobel Peace Prize Scholar Program. Two students will be selected to join a group of a dozen students taking courses in Oslo, Norway at the International Summer School and the Nansen Dialogue Center in June & July 2016. Travel and tuition costs are covered by the program. The Peace Scholars also take a leading role in promoting student participation in the Nobel Peace Prize Forum, hosted each year by Augsburg College.

Nominations for Distinguished Contributions Awards

The Office of Academic Affairs and the Center for Teaching and Learning invite your nominations for the 2016 awards for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching and Learning.

Augsburg annually recognizes individuals or groups that have made exemplary contributions to creating an engaging academic learning environment through awards for TEACHING, SCHOLARSHIP, or SERVICE.

All full-time faculty or staff who have been employed at the college for at least three years are eligible for the awards.

Due TUESDAY: URGO Summer Research App Phase 1

The 2016 URGO Summer Research information packet and application materials are now available at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo)! Students can apply to conduct 100, 200, or 400 hours of paid research over the summer under the mentorship of a faculty member.

Phase 1 of the application will be due February 2. Phase 2, which includes a detailed description of the proposed research, will be due February 23.

Who Has Made An Impression On You This Year?

Nominations for the 2016 Augsburg Outstanding Staff Awards are now being accepted through February 12!

The Outstanding Staff Award is intended to recognize exceptional Augsburg staff members who exemplify the mission statement of the College through their actions. Recipients of this award consistently go above and beyond the call of duty by providing exceptional service to others and/or making innovative and outstanding contributions to enhance the objectives of their department or the Augsburg community. There are six awards given out each year.

All Augsburg faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to nominate staff members. More information about the award and process are online at the nomination form link below.

Scholastic Connections Applications Available

Scholarship Opportunity for Undergraduate Students of Color

Applications are now being accepted for Scholastic Connections for 2016-17. Successful applicants for 5 available positions will receive a $5000 scholarship and be paired with an alum of color who will serve as the student's mentor.

Eligibility requirements, information about Scholastic Connections and applications are available at the SC web page. Go to Inside Augsburg, A to Z Directory, Scholastic Connections. http://www.augsburg.edu/connections and click on Application Requirements.

Students who receive full tuition scholarships: Promise Scholars, Act 6 Scholars, full tuition President Scholars, etc. are NOT eligible for SC.

Applications and letters of recommendation are due March 1.

Attention Faculty and Staff: If you know of a student of color who could benefit from a $5000 scholarship and work with a mentor, please nominate the student for Scholastic Connections. Craft Supply Drive for Children's Hospital

Tri-Beta has collected quite a bit for our craft supply drive. We have several projects ideas and will be making kits to donate to the Children's Hospital. We are still in need of the following items.

Pipe cleaners (multi color packs preferred)
Glue sticks
Decorative tapes
Tissue paper (multi color packs preferred)
Pom poms
Googly eyes
Crepe paper rolls

Most of these items can be found at the dollar store or in the dollar section at Target. If you don't have time to shop but still want to donate, you can drop cash off with Heather Hultquist in the Biology Office, and she will do the shopping for you. Tomorrow, Friday January 29, 2016 Augsburg College Office of Admissions, American Indian Student Services and Augsburg Indigenous Student Association will host 'Native American Youth Visit Day' where approximately 200 students from a variety of schools/school districts will be visiting Augsburg to tour, hear from current American Indian students who attend Augsburg, experience a meal on campus, from 9 am - 1 pm. Interfaith Scholars Program Featured in Videos

Videos on Interfaith Dialogue Featuring Augsburg's Interfaith Scholars Program

Fortress Press, in conjunction with past and present students in Augsburg's Interfaith Scholars Program, has created four new videos to be used with Introduction to World Religions: Second Edition by Christopher Partridge. In these short conversations, moderated by Professor Matt Maruggi, students highlight why their religious faith is important to them and why, in an increasingly globalizing world, it is essential to engage in dialogue with others who hold different religious beliefs or truth claims. Their conversations reveal the rich mosaic of religious expression and how in this context they find common ground for action among their peers, on their campus, and in the wider community and world.
