MLK Day Celebration Thank You
Thanks to the work of Dr. Mohamed Sallam and the MLK Day Committee for an incredible celebration yesterday! The chapel and atrium overflowed with Augsburg students, staff, faculty, and alumni along with a huge turnout from the surrounding community at large. Duina Hernandez, the emcee, did a fabulous job overseeing the event with energy and poise. It was the dream of Reies Romero to have Chuck D speak at Augsburg. With the support of many, it was a dream come true. Talented artists from Augsburg, including Malick Ceesay '17, and elsewhere opened the event. Chuck D's talk focused on "Race, Rap, and Reality: Supporting Our Youth in the Spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as They Face the Unique Challenges of Today." It was a special moment for those in attendance.

Craft Supply Drive for Children's Hospital
Kids in hospital rooms, waiting rooms, and outpatient clinics all find comfort and enjoyment in having something fun to do, and crafts are a great option! For this reason, crafts supplies are in constant demand at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital. They are handed out to patients in these various areas and are available to inpatients and their siblings in the unit playrooms.
The students in Tri-Beta, the biological honors society, are collecting craft items for the U of M Masonic Children's Hospital Tuesday, January 19 - Friday, January 29. We are hoping to collect enough supplies to put together several kits, ready to be handed out to children of all ages at the hospital.
Below are some of the items we are looking for, though others would be great, too. All items must be new and unused. By hospital guidelines, we cannot accept items that may be dangerous to children, nor can we take glitter, live feathers, pasta, beans, latex balloons, leaves, moss, or dirt.
- Crayons
- Markers
- Colored pencils
- Construction paper
- Coloring books/pages
- Pom-poms
- Pipe cleaners
- Googly eyes
