2015 Annual Security Report Available
Augsburg College is committed to assisting all members of the Augsburg community in providing for their own safety and security. The annual security and fire safety compliance document is available on the Department of Public Safety website at:

If you would like to receive the combined Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, which contains this information, you can stop by the Department of Public Safety at 801 21st Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55454 or you can request that a copy be mailed to you by calling (612) 330-1717.
The website and booklet contain information regarding campus security and personal safety topics such as: crime prevention, fire safety, public safety law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to security and safety on campus. They also contain information about crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned and controlled by Augsburg College; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
This information is required by law and is provided by the Augsburg College Department of Public Safety.
Teaching and Learning
Remember the Writing Lab
The marvelous writing tutors at the Augsburg Writing Lab are now working with all Augsburg students on any writing task -- papers, reports, applications, personal statements, resumes, etc. The WL is located on the street level of Lindell Library, just left of the circulation desk. No appointments are taken; just come with ideas, drafts (in hard copy), assignments. Each year the tutors conduct about 2,000 sessions with Augsburg grad and undergrad students and have had very busy first days already this fall!
Here are the hours for fall semester:
Mondays: 11:10 - 1:40 and 6:30 - 9:30 PM
Tuesdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00; and 7:30 - 10 PM
Wednesdays: 3:30 - 6:00 and 6:30 - 9:00 PM
Thursdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00 and 7:30 - 10:00 PM
Fridays: 4:30 - 7:00 PM
Sundays: 5:00 - 8:00 PM

Convocation Daily Schedule Change
On Friday, October 9, the Homecoming Convocation will affect the daily class schedule.
The revised schedule will be:
1st Period 8:00-8:50 a.m. (instead of 8:00-9:10)
2nd Period 9:00-9:50 a.m. (instead of 9:20-10:30)
Convocation 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Remaining classes follow regular schedule

Crash Course on Cedar-Riverside
West Bank Crash Course is an un-conference (of sorts) highlighting all things West Bank.
Join us for an introductory crash course into Minneapolis' coolest neighborhood! We'll have workshops and events throughout the week (Monday-Saturday) including a fashion show, craft beer tasting, sambusa-making session, neighborhood tours and more. It's a great way to get to know everything the neighborhood has to offer, and there's something for everyone!

Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program Proposals
Faculty interested in leading a short-term study abroad program in 2016-2017 must submit a proposal by December 19, 2015. More information is available at www.augsburg.edu/global - look under Resources for faculty and staff. At this URL, faculty can review the application itself, along with an informational packet that addresses common questions related to location, cost, marketing, and roles/responsibilities.
Faculty are also welcome to submit for 2017-2018! While firm decisions regarding 2017-2018 proposals will not be made during this cycle; they will be reviewed and, when possible, given preference for acceptance during the next cycle.
NOTE: Graduate programs are now subject to a proposal review process as well. Read more at the above URL.

Last Day to Commit to Give to the Max Day Projects
If you've ever thought about doing a project for Give to the Max Day, today is the day to find out more and commit to a fundraising project! Academic departments, athletics, organizations, and clubs are all invited to be a part of Give to the Max Day on Thursday, November 12.
We're already looking forward to the one-day online giving event where donors around the world can support their favorite Minnesota nonprofits. Last year, 34 Augsburg projects were sponsored by students, faculty and staff, and the College raised more than $430,000 to come in first place among all Minnesota colleges and universities.

Blood Drive Sign-up Tabling TODAY
If you have not had a chance to sign-up to donate blood next Wednesday 10/7 you can stop by Christensen Center today from 12:30 - 1:30 pm to get a time. You can also go online at www.mbc.org/search drives and enter sponsor code 0027 or finally call the CWC office at 612-330-1707 to get a time.
Please help save lives - every TWO seconds someone needs blood. As an incentive all donors next week will receive a great t-shirt that says: "This is the part where I save the day. I am a blood donor."

Seminary and Divinity Day
Are you considering working for the church or a faith-based non-profit organization? Would you like to learn more about various areas of potential service and explore options for theological graduate study?
If so, gather with your peers from other regional colleges at Gustavus Adolphus College on Monday, October 19.
This all-day event will give you the opportunity to meet with representatives from up to 20 top-notch seminaries and divinity schools from around the nation - from multiple denominational affiliations. The day will also feature a luncheon with a keynote address, breakout sessions and discussions about the discernment process, questions of faith, what it's like to be a professor or in ministry (ordained, not ordained, specialized), the difference between a seminary and divinity school, and more.
Transportation to and from Gustavus will be provided. There is no charge for this event (which includes lunch) but you must pre-register by October 12.

Planting Seeds for an Urban Arboretum - October 14
Are you curious how the CSBR will impact campus green space? Do you have questions or ideas for how Augsburg could maximize our green space in our urban neighborhood? Do you really love trees?
Join us October 14th for a special chapel service featuring Professor Larry Crockett who will share insights and philosophies related to stewarding green space.
Following chapel, join us from 11am-12pm in Oren Gateway Center Room 100 for a panel with Q&A moderated by Regent Matt Entenza. The panel will feature partners helping in planning Augsburg's campus transformation into an Urban Arboretum. Learn how we will maximize green space to improve experiences for students, faculty, staff, and our neighbors!

Poli Sci and IR Career Forum
Please join us on Monday for a forum on career paths for Political Science and International Relations students. The forum features Misti Allen Binsfeld '93, managing partner at Binsfeld and Engebretson, a firm specializing in immigration law; and Mike Howard '05, communications director for the House DFL and Richfield city council member. Each will talk about their career paths after Augsburg, and offer suggestions for current students. The forum is arranged so you can come for part of the time, so feel free to leave early or come late if you have a class during part of the session's time.

The deadline to submit your study abroad application has been extended! Now the deadline for January short-term programs is October 9, and for semester length spring 2016 programs the deadline is October 15.

Annual Anderson Hall 5K Fun Run/Walk
The Department of Residence Life and Anderson Hall will be putting on the annual 5K fun run/walk on Sunday, October 11, beginning at 10AM.
To sign up, please come to the Anderson Hall Residence Life Office, the Urness/Mortensen Residence Life Office, or our table in Christensen Center (Friday, October 2 and Tuesday, October 6 from 12-1 p.m.) We will be holding a raffle the day of and everyone will get a free reusable water bottle. Everyone is welcome, and we hope to see you there!
