Faculty-Do You Want to Improve Student Engagement?

Join CTL, e-learning specialist Bonnie Tensen, and the academic LFCs for a workshop that addresses common pedagogical issues through technology. This workshop will provide faculty with tools for increasing student preparedness for class, decreasing students' confusion about grading processes, and improving students' understanding of classroom policies. Faculty will also have the opportunity to discuss their own pedagogical needs and ask about available tools.

Hiring Middle School Debate Judges

The Minnesota Urban Debate League is looking for volunteer or paid Middle School Debate Judges for the following dates:

20th Jan. - Central High School - 2:30-6pm
21st Jan. - Northeast Middle School - 3:30-7pm
22nd Jan. - Roosevelt High School - 4:15-8pm

Judges listen to debate rounds, determine winners, and most importantly give students feedback to help them improve. Judges DO NOT need previous experience with debate. The total time commitment includes a training and dinner. College students can volunteer or be paid.

Einstein's is open from 7:30am-5:00pm on Saturday and closed on Sunday.

The Commons is open from 11:30am-1:00pm for Brunch and 5pm-7pm for Dinner on Saturday and Sunday.

Nabo is open from 7:30am-8:00pm. The Special of the day is Spaghetti and Meatballs.

Einstein's is open from 7:30am-8:00pm with the Late Night Menu starting at 7:00pm.

The Commons is open from 7:30am-7:00pm. Market Place is serving Chicken Breast with Oriental Dressing Roasted Asparagus with Lemon Dill, Potato Gratin, and Broccoli with Walnuts and Parmesan. Vege is serving Horseradish Potatoes, Brown Rice with Lime & Cilantro, Carrots with Sesame Dressing, and Green Beans with Toasted Pumpkin Seeds.

There is Chicken Wild Rice Soup all day in The Commons Today!

Complete Your Augsburg Exp. with an Internship

If you have an internship this spring and would like to use it to fulfill your Augsburg Experience graduation requirement, remember you must register your internship by January 26.

You have two options to register your internship:

- Option 1: Register for academic credit (2 or 4 credits), which also fulfills the Augsburg Experience. For details on the academic internship registration process visit: http://www.augsburg.edu/strommen/internships/internship-registration/

- Option 2: Register for the non-credit internship option (AUG EX3) that fulfills the Augsburg Experience ONLY. For details on the non-credit internship registration process visit: http://www.augsburg.edu/strommen/internships/non-credit-internships/

Both options require you to attend an internship orientation/registration session available on the following dates:

- Monday, January 19 at 10:45 a.m. (newly added)
- Tuesday, January 20 at 10:00 a.m.
- Thursday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m.
- Friday, January 23 at 9:30 a.m.

MAL Celebration of Nicaragua, January 22

Augsburg's MA in Leadership Program invites the Augsburg community to join us in a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the MA in Leadership course "Universal Responsibility and Leadership: A Nicaraguan Experience."

When: Thursday, January 22, 5:30 – 8 pm
Where: Augsburg's Foss Center
Cost: $20 per person (includes food, wine, and beer).
Proceeds benefit Nica HOPE, a nonprofit based in Managua that works with communities living around the Managua city dump to offer long-term solutions to entrenched poverty through education and practical skills training.

Enjoy Nicaraguan food, photos, stories, and music, and hear from special guest Juan Carlos Lopez, program coordinator for the Center for Global Education and Experience in Nicaragua. Diana Pierce, KARE 11 news anchor and 2014 Nicaragua program participant, will MC the event.

Registration is required. Please register by January 18 through the Alumni Relations site (www.augsburg.edu/alumni/events). When you click on the registration form, it will ask for your graduation year, etc. Non-alumni can just skip that part and complete the registration form.

Juan Carlos Lopez on Campus for Nicaragua Days

Juan Carlos Lopez, program coordinator at Augsburg College's campus in Nicaragua, will be in Minneapolis on January 21-22. Please read on for ways to connect with him:

Nicaragua Days Information Table in the Christensen Center lobby on January 21 from 10-12: Past travelers to Nicaragua and Central America will be available to talk about their experiences. Juan Carlos will also be available at the table for portions of this time block.

Meet and Greet (and Reunite!) with Juan Carlos on January 21 from 3:30 to 4:30 in the Augsburg Abroad Suite in the Lower Level of Christensen. Light refreshments will be served at this casual gathering, which is an opportunity for students to discuss our Central America program options direct with the source! And ALL past program participants and faculty are welcome to stop by and reconnect with Juan Carlos!

Juan Carlos will also lecture and present in various classrooms on both January 21 and 22!

Health screenings will be held on Tuesday-Thursday, January 27-29th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Click on the link below to schedule an appointment now!!

Heath screening includes: Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, height and weight.
***This is a fasting test -- please do not eat for 12 hours before the screening. Drink water and take prescribed medications.

Incentive to participate: All faculty and staff who complete the health screening and health assessment questionnaire will be eligible to receive a $100.00 HSA contribution.

Keeping Track of Auggies

ABO Chicago Visit

Congratulations to the 19 Auggies who spent the last five days of winter break participating in the annual Augsburg Business Organization (ABO) Chicago trip. This was the 11th year that students have traveled to Chicago, visited Augsburg alumni, and toured Chicago business institutions like the Federal Reserve, Chicago Board of Trade and the University of Chicago. Alumni presenters this year included Brett Batterson '80, ABO founder Rod Gonzalez '03, Ryan Rivard '06, Jason Shaver '95, and Joel Bue '91.

Congratulations to MBA Student, Sarah Ness

Augsburg-Rochester MBA student, Sarah Ness, was honored with Rochester Women Magazine's 2015 Overall Extraordinary Woman Award on January 11th. The award recognizes the outstanding work that women perform contributing excellence every day to the improvement of business and the community. Sarah is the Marketing Associate at Shorewood Senior Campus, Rochester, Minnesota and is in her first year in the Augsburg MBA Program.
