Teaching and Learning

How Are You Going to Spend Your Summer?

It is not too early to start planning for summer 2015. The Center for Teaching and Learning, the Faculty Development Committee, the Office of International Programs, and the Office of Academic Affairs would like to remind you that approximately $40,000 has been budgeted to support faculty scholarship, course design, and collaboration with our international partners. While the Faculty Development Committee is still making adjustments to grant amounts and application processes, the due dates have been set.

Provost's Internationalization Travel Grants - February 9, 2015
Instructional Course Design - March 2, 2015

An announcement will be made when the application forms have been completely updated (early January). For now, reviewing the descriptions and applications for last summer's grants on the CTL website under "Grants" will get you started.

Food Service Hours

Wednesday 12/10/14
Nabo is open from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Special of the Day is a Sweet & Sour Chicken Bowl.

Einsteins is open from 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., with the late night menu starting at 7:00 p.m.

The Commons is open from 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Market Place is serving Herb Roasted Pork Loin, Grilled Quinoa Cakes, Braised Carrots with Thyme, and Sweet Potato Fries. Vege is serving Couscous with Carrots, Raisins, & Pine Nuts, Roasted Butternut Squash with Warm Spice, Crispy Broccoli with Lemon Topping, and Hazelnut Roasted Asparagus.

On December 12 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Christensen Center Lobby there will be a meeting with The Food Service Director and a Dietician visit.

All Food Service Locations will be closing at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 19. Einsteins will be open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from December 22 to January 9. All Food Service Locations will be closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day. The Commons will be reopening at 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 11. All Food Service Locations will be reopening with regular hours on Monday, January 12.

Get Paid to do an Internship - Apply Today

Wouldn't it be GREAT if you could get paid to do an internship?

You may be able to do just that because of a grant recently awarded to Augsburg College. Augsburg has recently been awarded a Great Lakes Career Ready Grant. The Career Ready Internship grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation provides funds to colleges and universities so that they can partner with businesses and nonprofits to develop new paid internships, and convert existing unpaid internships into paid opportunities. This program serves juniors and seniors who receive financial aid, improving their odds of graduating and preparing them to enter the workforce with real-world experience in their fields of study.

To be eligible:

* Students must be in good academic standing (2.5+ GPA)
* Students must be a college junior or senior (60 credits completed) at the time of the internship
* Students must be eligible for financial aid (work study)
* The internship must be related to your major or career aspirations
* Internships will take place Spring and Summer 2015

New CLASS Disability Specialist

Please join the CLASS office staff in welcoming our new Disability Specialist, Katie Lane, to Augsburg. Katie has a BA in Music from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and earned her MA in Leadership in Student Affairs from the University of St. Thomas. Most recently, she was a disability services advisor at Capella University. We're excited to have her on board!

Las Posadas: Journey, Hospitality & Immigration

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of Augsburg College are invited to join Las Posadas!

This year's Posadas will focus on the themes of journey, radical hospitality, and immigration as described throughout the story of Mary and Joseph's pilgrimage to Bethlehem and also present in the narrative of immigration and immigrants.

10:40 a.m. - Chapel Service, Hoversten Chapel
11:00 a.m. - Community gathering, traditional Mexican food, and Mexican villancicos (carols)

Grub & Empty Bowls - Get lunch at Christensen Commons today from 11-1:30 and grab a special meal and a handmade bowl (or two)!

ENV 100, AugSem 101-10, ART 250, and the Campus Kitchen have teamed up for an epic meal! Enjoy local, sustainable, seasonal dishes, planned and prepared by ENV 100 students and pick a student-crafted bowl to keep and fill with soup made creatively from food pantry ingredients! Donations for bowls will support two local organizations: Breaking Free and the Bel13ve in Miracles Foundation. This special food comes with your meal plan or for the regular faculty/staff fee.

Today - Augsburg 2064

Join Design students from ART 102 today at 2:00 p.m. in the Christensen Center Fish Bowl as they present their final class project. Students were asked to envision Augsburg College in 2064 and create a 3 dimensional landscape using non-perishable food items as source materials.

Students will share their concepts and approach during the presentation.

The installation will be on display until 12/15/14 and upon completion food items will be donated to the Augsburg Food Shelf.
