A Huge Thank You

The Great Minnesota Get-Together came to a close on Monday, and what a ride it was! I dare not begin to list all the people who volunteered at the booth for fear I would leave someone out, but thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who played a part in the amazing success of the Auggie booth.

We visited with more prospective students and more alumni, parents, and friends than we've ever seen at the fair. It was quite remarkable to see what a difference a wheel game at the booth could make! In total, the wheel was spun more than 5,200 times. Our volunteers collected 2,852 prospective student info cards and 495 alumni update cards! Volunteers and fair visitors are encouraged to email me with any comments or suggestions for next year at herron@augsburg.edu.

Again, thank you so much to each faculty, staff, alum, family member and current student who gave so generously of their time!

Monday, September 8 from 6:00 - 9:00pm (general auditions)
Tuesday, September 9 from 3:40 - 6:40pm (general auditions)

All Augsburg students are welcome to audition! Audition monologues, audition tips, and copies of A Midsummer Night's Dream have been placed on reserve in the library, under the name of Martha Johnson, and at the Theater department desk in Foss Center. Please choose and carefully prepare 2 monologues from those provided. It is recommended that you read the entire play in order to have a sense of the tone of the piece and the nature of the characters.

- Please arrive at the audition site at least 10 minutes before your scheduled audition time. Those who arrive after their scheduled time may not be allowed to audition.
- Please wear appropriate attire to auditions. (I.e. dress accordingly as one would for a professional audition. No jeans, flip-flops, t-shirts, crop tops, halter tops, etc.)
- Please bring to auditions a complete list of all conflicts you may have with the rehearsal and performance schedule, including work, classes, social commitments (such as weddings, anniversaries, etc.) and ensemble performances. Actors should declare all known conflicts, in writing, at the time of the general audition.

Rehearsals begin September 15 and performance dates are October 31- November 9.

Description of A Midsummer Night's Dream:
With its potent mixture of love, comedy, lyricism, and stage magic, A Midsummer Night's Dream has continued to captivate audiences for over four centuries. Set in a mythical world of ancient Athens, moonlit woods, and fairy kingdoms, the play is a poignant and hilarious look at multifarious forms of human folly. Our production will imaginatively explore the play's rich and compelling themes (both overt and covert)—love, power, gender, sexuality, marriage, class, patriarchy-through a fresh, contemporary lens, as we mine the play's poetic, humorous, and magical power.

Kemper Scholars Attend 2014 Conference

Augsburg College is one of 16 select colleges to be part of the Kemper Scholars Program headquartered in Chicago. In early August, our 3 current scholars, Ibrahim Al-hajiby (recent senior), Keisha Barnard (junior) and newest scholar Najma Warsame (sophomore) attended the annual conference at the Hard Rock hotel in downtown Chicago with Kemper Campus Coordinator, Diane Pike.

This past summer, Ibrahim did a marketing internship with the Kemper Insurance Company and Keisha completed her internship with a nonprofit promoting global programming experiences. Najame will do her first internship next summer in Chicago. In addition to significant scholarships, these scholars complete 2 paid internships and bring their liberal arts backgrounds to professional settings. It is a terrific opportunity for them and Augsburg College.

Watch for the request for nominations from the new first year class to select next year's Kemper Scholar. For information, contact Diane Pike at pike@augsburg.edu.
