Augsburg Welcomes Margaret Finders

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Margaret (Peg) Finders, Chair of Education, to Augsburg College. Dr. Finders comes to Augsburg College most recently from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. There, Dr. Finders served as Director of Teacher Education and as a Professor of English education. Further, she has served as a classroom teacher of 7th grade language arts for 13 years.

Dr. Finders is a well-published and engaged scholar, whose goals and interests focus on early adolescence and on social and cultural contexts of literacy learning. In her research, she notes she "strives to contribute to understandings about language, literacy, and social life, specifically regarding gender and adolescence. I am keenly interested in issues of justice and privilege that may prevent some students from teaching success in school settings." Dr. Finders currently has two books in process.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Margaret Finders to Augsburg College.

Augsburg Community Asset Inventory for Science 123

Dear Augsburg Community,

I have been teaching Science 123: The Science of Food and Cooking for the past two years. We have been fortunate to have amazing chefs, entrepreneurs, and farmers generously share their time and expertise with our class. Many of you have shared contacts and connections to these individuals with me. Thank you.

I am asking for your help. I would like to expand/formalize my database of connections in the Twin Cities food scene. Do you have a connection to the owner of a small business (food related), local chef, or a food scientist who works for General Mills who might be interested in talking to our students?

If you are willing, please send me your connection to these individuals as well as their contact information (email, phone). I will cc:d you on any initial correspondence if it makes sense to reach out for the class. It would be great to figure out what sorts of assets the Augsburg community has available as we continue to explore the intersection between materials science, food, and our region.

Thank You,
Ben
