AugSTEM Scholarships for STEM Students - Due July 1
Applications are due July 1. Please encourage eligible students to apply. Students who plan to apply should email stem@augsburg.edu.
The AugSTEM program is designed to support Augsburg juniors and seniors who wish to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Funded by the National Science Foundation, AugSTEM Scholars can receive up to $7,000 per year in financial support. Scholars also become a part of a vital STEM community at Augsburg with opportunities for research, faculty mentoring, and career development.
The AugSTEM scholar award is designated for students who are within five semesters of graduating. Applicants must be full-time students in a STEM major (biology, biopsychology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics) with a 3.0 GPA within their major. This award is available for U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents who demonstrate financial need via FAFSA. Students who began their college careers at community colleges are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

TODAY: Liberal Arts and Professional Studies
Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LAPS): A Summer Conversation Series
TODAY! Wednesday, June 18, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Meet at 10:45 a.m. in front of Lindell Library to walk with the group to the James Ford Bell Library, 4th floor Wilson Library, U of MN
After a 45-minute visit, we'll convene for lunch at 12 noon in the Afro Deli's seminar room to discuss: What can early modern maps reveal about structures of knowledge? What structures in the academy (ideological, financial, disciplinary) prevent effective and sustained cross-disciplinary, cross-division collaboration? Should we make inter-disciplinary and cross-division collaboration strategic priorities for "Augsburg 2019"?
Background info: Marguerite Ragnow, curator of the Bell Library, will introduce us to some of the world's most extraordinary rare maps, including the Waldseemüller Map (1507) that named America, Olaus Magnus's imaginative Map of the Sea (1539), and much more. The collection was begun by James Ford Bell, President and Chair of General Mills between 1928 and 1948. These maps will surely stimulate conversations about the relationships among maps, politics and power, the decorative arts, scientific knowledge, travel, business and commerce, and of course history.
Contact Ginny McCarthy or Jacqui deVries with any questions, concerns, or feedback
This series aims to gather faculty and staff from across the College for discussions about what it means to "integrate the liberal arts and professional studies" at Augsburg. Each session includes lunch and a visit to an off-campus site chosen to stimulate rich conversations. No advance reading is necessary, although additional resources can be found on the General Education Moodle website.

Join Us: Worship in the Chapel on Friday at 11 a.m.
The Religion Department, the Christensen Center for Vocation, and Campus Ministry have been hosting a group of high school youth on campus all week for Augsburg College Youth Theology Institute (ACYTI). The group has been exploring the intersection of technology and Christian community, especially: How does technology enhance and hinder the formation and sustaining of Christian community?
Please join us for closing worship this Friday morning, 6/20, at 11 a.m. in Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center. We will gather for worship and to give this great group of ACYTI students a warm, Augsburg community send-off!

Aspen Institute on Business & Society Program
This past week, business faculty members Marc McIntosh and Peter Stark, accompanied by Dean Lori Peterson, attended the 2014 convening of the Aspen Institute Business and Society Program undergraduate business educators consortium meeting. Augsburg's business faculty have been a part of the consortium since its first convening in 2012. The Consortium "is designed to strengthen undergraduate education in both the liberal arts and business, by focusing on curricular and co-curricular approaches that integrate the two. Our overarching objective is to explore how business education can do what the liberal arts and liberal learning arguably do best - helping students to make sense of the world and their place in it, and preparing them to engage responsibly with the life of their times."
