Speaking Skills Workshop - May 14
Speaking Skills Workshop
Jointly sponsored by CTL and General Education
Led by Darcey Engen, Kristen Chamberlain, Sarah Myers, and Christopher Smith
Wednesday, May 14
9:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. (brunch provided)
OGC 113
The Speaking requirement in the General Education curriculum, like the Writing requirement, is embedded across most majors and programs at Augsburg and will be assessed campus-wide in 2014-15. This workshop aims to re-energize faculty to teach this skill. We will consider the elements of good oral communication and provide examples of how faculty across the disciplines can work to develop students' speaking skills, in both formal and interpersonal settings. All faculty and staff are invited to attend.
Pre-Health Application Boot Camp Session 2 - 5/14
URGO will be hosting Application Bootcamp for students and alumni who are applying to professional schools in the health field this year (Medicine, Dentistry, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, etc.). The bootcamp has two remaining sessions:
May 14, 10-2 in Sverdrup 201
May 19, 10-2 in Sverdrup 201
It will feature application instruction from Dr. Dale Pederson, personal statement guidance from Dr. Dal Liddle, and individualized advising from URGO. Students are strongly recommended to attend all three sessions to develop a high quality application, and are encouraged to sign up for as many sessions as possible. The work time and support is designed for students at all stages of the application process, those who haven't started yet and those who are well under way. Students who attend will receive priority feedback on applications and secondaries following bootcamp.

ACTC Shared Services Project Update for May 2014
In its May newsletter, the Associated College of the Twin Cities (ACTC) provided an updated on the ACTC shared services exploration project launched this past November. The report describes what the study has learned so far from the financial analysis and campus interviews completed over the winter and spring. The project update report is available online at the ACTC web site: http://us5.campaign-archive1.com/?u=6eefbc973f73e000f77b57748&id=703f73be44&e=[UNIQID] .
The ACTC update also outlines the next steps in the exploration of shared services which, pending ACTC board approval, would include additional due diligence and campus input during the summer 2014. While the ACTC board has authority to approve (or reject) the additional shared services exploration work, the ACTC communication underscores that each campus will have the choice regarding whether and how it will opt to participate in future shared services opportunities, when those opportunities are identified.
The shared services project is led by the ACTC Business Officers Council, which comprises the five ACTC CFOs. If you have questions about the project, its objectives or status, please send your inquiries to the attention of Staney Rostad at rostads@augsburg.edu.
