Internationalization Travel Grants Available
Two travel grants of up to $2,500 for round trip airfare will be awarded annually to faculty interested in pursuing teaching, research, curriculum, or other scholarly collaboration with an Augsburg international program or international partner institution. Two travel grants will be awarded annually for two different regions of the world:
*AFRICA - Center for Global Education study center in Namibia or through the study center with a local partner university or a Namibian NGO that partners with CGE
*ASIA - partner institutions in China (2) and Hong Kong
*EUROPE - partner institutions in Norway, Finland, Germany, Poland, and Slovenia
*LATIN AMERICA - Center for Global Education in Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, and Nicaragua or through a CGE study center with a local university or NGO that partners with CGE
PURPOSE
To provide support for faculty to pursue international teaching, research, or other scholarly collaboration with Augsburg College international programs or partner institutions. The program is designed to achieve three outcomes:
1) Develop faculty international knowledge, experience and relationships for internationalizing the campus and the curriculum.
2) Strengthen the relationship and collaboration between Augsburg College and its international programs and partners.
3) Support Faculty Intercultural Development
APPLICATION PROCESS
Apply on the CTL Grant Applications Website by Friday, March 28. Awards will be announced by April 11.

More than one grant may be awarded for a given region if multiple applications are received for one region and no viable applications for a second region are received by the deadline. Applications will be evaluated by the Committee on Faculty Development.

McNair Scholars Program Recruiting for Fall 2014
Augsburg College's TRIO McNair Scholars Program is recruiting for Fall 2014 admission. The goal of the program is to prepare Scholars for graduate study through academics, involvement in undergraduate research, and other scholarly activities. McNair teams scholars with other academically strong students who aspire to graduate study, and helps them to achieve that dream.
The McNair Scholars Program works with students who are members of groups underrepresented in graduate education and who exhibit strong academic potential. The program provides coursework, workshops, and advising in preparation for graduate study. Also, the program assists with securing admission to and financial assistance for enrollment in graduate programs. Students will acquire the research skills necessary to succeed in graduate school through a paid research internship ($4,000) with an Augsburg faculty member during the Summer of 2015.
The McNair Scholars Program is a federal TRIO grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Therefore, to be eligible, students must be first-generation (neither parent graduated from a four-year college) AND low-income OR may be persons from groups underrepresented in graduate education. The Department of Education defines these groups as African-American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Hispanic/Latino. Additionally, applicants must be either U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.

SI and Drop-In Suspended for Spring Break
Due to the limited availability of tutors and SI leaders during midterm break, most SI and Drop-in sessions will be cancelled next week. Tutors and leaders should communicate their specific plans and session details to students and faculty. If you have questions regarding the sessions you attend, please ask your SI and Drop-in Leaders. We hope you have a wonderful break!
Zyzzogeton Registration Deadline March 14
Augsburg's annual student research festival, Zyzzogeton, will be held on April 11 from 2-4 p.m. in the Oren Gateway Atrium.
Students who plan to present their research or creative activity at this poster session will need to register at www.augsburg.edu/urgo/zyzzogeton by March 14. Poster and abstract submission directions are detailed at www.augsburg.edu/urgo/zyzzogeton as well.
If you need help creating your poster, URGO and McNair will be hosting a workshop on Wednesday, March 5 at 4:30 p.m. in Sverdrup 205.

Spanish Conversation: Southern Spain
Practice your Spanish with us this Thursday while learning about southern Spain! Natalya Brown '14 will share photos and stories with the group about her semester spent in Granada, Spain. Join us to learn more about the beauty and deep history of this part of the world. Even those with minimal Spanish experience will enjoy this presentation - all are welcome. Natalya will speak from 12-12:30 p.m.
The Spanish conversation group meets every Thursday in the Riverside Room, 2nd floor Christensen, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Signs will be posted. Join us for 10 minutes or for the whole session, whatever works for you. Feel free to bring your lunch.

Mpls Campus Building Accessibility Audits
The Accessibility at Augsburg Committee invites campus community members to help with physical accessibility audits for five buildings on the Minneapolis campus.
We have self-audits set up for five buildings. Each group is capped at 10. Please go to:

Screenwriter Nicole Brending, Thursday, March 13
Screenwriter and MFA Mentor Nicole Brending will be screening her work on Thursday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Marshall Room, Christensen Center.
Nicole is a three-time Jerome Foundation Grand recipient, a former McKnight Screenwriting Fellow, as well as the winner of the Ezra Litwak Award for Distinction in Screenwriting. Her feature project PRESERVATION was the only American project selected for the 2011 Berlinale Co-Production Market and her short films have garnered such awards as "Best of the Fest" (Palm Springs), "Best Short" (Hamburg and Q Cinema), the "Prix de Varti" (Ann Arbor). She graduated with honors from Columbia University's MFA Film Program and has developed projects for the Robert Evans Company, Blossom Films and Fido Features, to name a few.
This is a MFA info session event, and is open to the public.

Urban Farming: Production, Policy, and Education

The inner city presents great opportunities for urban farming, as well as interesting challenges. The Campus Kitchen at Augsburg College and Augsburg's Course "The Science of Food and Cooking" will host a panel of growers that have experience in urban agriculture and will address related issues around production, policy, and education. The panel will include Stefan Meyer of Growing Lots Farm, a CSA farm 3 blocks from Augsburg; Dayna Burtness, founder of the St Olaf Organic Farm and current owner of Laughing Loon Farm in Northfield; and Russ Henry, owner of Giving Tree Gardens and member of the Homegrown Minneapolis, the city's official Food Policy Advisory group.
Students with the Science of Cooking class and Campus Kitchen will prepare some locally grown treats to enjoy. Guests can also have a free currant, raspberry, or grape plant that we'll transplant from the Augsburg Community Garden.

On April 3, 2014, the Minnesota Private College Council and Augsburg's Day Student Government will sponsor a free day-long trip to the Minnesota State Capitol for Augsburg Students. This event promotes the Minnesota State Grant Program and gives you the opportunity to spend a day in one of the most important venues in the state. At the Capitol, you will have the opportunity to meet with your State Representative, sit in on a legislative session, and become a part of the political process!
Your participation in this annual event is needed now more than ever. Each year, approximately $3.4 million in State Grant funds help Augsburg students and families pay for their education. But, with increasing pressure on the Minnesota state budget, the State Grant program is in jeopardy. We need your help promoting the State Grant Program to ensure that Augsburg families continue getting the support they need!
2014 Day at the Capitol takes place on April 3 from 8:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Augsburg provides private bus transportation to and from the State capitol—busses leave Augsburg at 8:00 a.m. and return to campus around 2:30 p.m. The Minnesota Private College Council provides on-site training on how to talk to legislators about the State Grant program, schedules your visits with legislators, coordinates all on-site activities and provides lunch. Students from Bethel University, Concordia and St. Scholastica will also attend Day at the Capitol, April 3rd.

Alum from '63 Honors Rev. Quanbeck with CSBR Gift
Nancy Joubert Raymond '63 never imagined that one day she could afford to give a major gift to Augsburg College. Recently she pledged $25,000 for the Center for Science, Business, and Religion.
"I am at a time in life where my needs are simple, and I am able to give back to Augsburg and my congregation more substantially than I could years ago," Raymond says. "My car has 235,000 miles on it, yet it's running fine. I don't need to buy more stuff for myself. I would rather direct some resources to causes that matter to me. I feel good that I can give."
She is sponsoring a CSBR faculty office in honor of Pastor Philip Quanbeck, Sr. Though not a religion major, she took every class he taught. "He inspired personal and spiritual growth," Raymond says. "His voice and his teaching remain with me, even after all these years. He frequently led daily chapel services, and I still remember how he had us sing 'O Come, O Come Emmanuel' every day during Advent."

Margo Ensz Receives Honorable Mention for Posters
Each year, hundreds of undergraduates apply to the Council on Undergraduate Research to present their research at the Posters on the Hill event in Washington, DC. If selected, students meet members of Congress, funding agencies, and foundations, and have the opportunity to advocate for undergraduate research programs. Incredibly competitive, only the top 10% of applicants are selected to present or receive Honorable Mention.
Summa cum laude English graduate, Margo Ensz, was among this top 10% and received Honorable Mention for her URGO summer research project, "Analyzing the Persistence of a Sense of Place Among Young Adults in the Technology-Rich, A-Contextual 21st Century", advised by Dr. Colin Irvine. In addition to Margo's impressive academic accomplishments at Augsburg, she also participated in the Augsburg Choir, the Honors Review, and held an internship at Milkweed Editions. Congratulations, Margo, for this prestigious recognition of your work!
