Summer in the Writing Lab
The Writing Lab tutors are working this summer. Here is the schedule:
Now - June 28: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 5 - 7:30 p.m.
BREAK
July 8 - August 8: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 5 - 7:30 p.m.
The Lab is located on the street level of Lindell Library, just left of the circulation desk. Tutors are available to help any Augsburg student with any writing assignment.

Introducing Spark Sessions for Faculty and Staff
Do you have an idea for research or scholarship that has been collecting dust? Need feedback on your proposal but aren't sure who to ask? Are you intimidated or confused by the grant seeking process?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, attend an upcoming Spark Session!
What is a Spark Session?
Spark Sessions provide an opportunity for faculty and staff to share ideas and support each other in proposal development and grant submission. Attend a Spark Session to:
Brainstorm and generate new ideas
Refine your idea
Receive feedback and support
Learn from your peers
Network and collaborate
Receive up to date news and information regarding external grants
Spark Sessions will be held monthly and will last approximately 1 hour. Discussion content will change each month based on the ideas and topics shared by your peers.
Who should attend?
Faculty and staff of all disciplines and experience levels are encouraged to attend the Spark Sessions. The only requisites are 1) an interest in proposal development and grant seeking, and 2) a willingness to share your ideas or provide constructive feedback to your peers.
What if I don't have an idea (yet)?
Feel free to attend even if you don't have an idea! Support your peers by providing feedback regarding their ideas! Also, Spark Sessions are an ideal forum to network, learn, and stay up to date on grant related news and opportunities.
When will Spark Sessions be held?

Advanced Placement Summer Institute Workshop
Augsburg College will be hosting week-long workshops for secondary teachers of Advanced Placement courses. Workshops run from Tuesday, June 17 to Friday, June 21 and from Monday, June 24-Thursday, June 28. Workshops include the following: Economics, English Language, English Literature, U.S. Government & Politics, U.S. History, Studio Arts, Biology, Calculus, and Statistics. The workshops will mainly be held in the Old Main building, but will also include the Science, Foss, Sverdrup buildings.

Cultural Competence in Care of Trans Patients
Hello,
My name is Emerson Ball and I am an undergraduate student conducting research through the Undergraduate Research and Graduate Opportunity grant program at Augsburg College with the mentorship of Alex Iantaffi, Assistant Professor at University of Minnesota. I am conducting several focus groups on the cultural competence of current and aspiring health care providers in working with transgender patients as well as the experiences of transgender individuals within health care. Transgender identified individuals:
I am currently conducting a study regarding current and aspiring health care providers' cultural competence in working with transgender patients and the successes and gaps within that.
You may be eligible to participate if: you are eighteen years or older, you live in the United States or its territories, and you identify as transgender.
If you are interested in participating, you will be asked to participate in a focus group discussing your experiences in your care received from health care providers as well as your personal definitions of cultural competence. It will take approximately 90 minutes, one time only on June 13th, 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of Christiansen in the Cedar room at Augsburg College.

3rd Fulbright Winner
Please join us in congratulating Lauren Butler '13, who was recently named a Fulbright winner! Lauren is Augsburg's 3rd Fulbright winner this year.
Lauren, a recent Spanish and International Relations graduate, was awarded an English Teaching Assistantship in Turkey for the 2013-2014 academic year. We are proud to have such a gifted and motivated student represent Augsburg in this prestigious award competition!

15-20 June Commencement Volunteers Needed
June Commencement 2013 is right around the corner and we're looking for members of the campus community that would be able to volunteer during the ceremony. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of people to make sure that the nearly 3000 guests and our graduates have a seamless, enjoyable day. I am still looking for 15-20 volunteers that would be available for a few hours on Sunday.

Night Songs: Light For A Weary World
The Augsburg College Youth Theology Institute would like to invite the entire Augsburg community to two special events on Monday, June 17. James Flaten, the associate director of the Minnesota Space Grant will be giving an astronomy presentation on various images from space in Foss 43 from 6:15 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. Scott Rohr, cantor at University Lutheran Church of Hope, will lead us in an evening vespers service using these same images at 7:30 p.m. in the Hoversten Chapel. These events are part of the 2013 Youth Theology Institute's exploration of the intersection of science and religion. We hope you will join us.
